Can't open threads, app becomes unresponsive when "Prefer Cross-Fade Transitions" is enabled

I’ve not been able to mod any threads or forums for a week now. It just hangs after I press one. It updates the unread count so it must be doing...something? I’ve reinstalled it multiple times to no avail. Anyone have any ideas? — Couch Life

I have the same experience just trying to read a thread. Upgraded to iOS 13.1.3 and moved to a new phone, press any bookmarked thread and it just takes the unread count to 0 and locks up. Tried uninstall/reinstall to no effect. — Vortex Street

Upgraded to iOS 13.2 and I can call up bookmarks and forums, but as soon as I select a thread it doesn't open it, all it does is mark everything read and stays locked in the list of bookmarks. Can't do anything after that and the app effectively is locked.

Only force quitting works after that, but if I relaunch same thing happens.. — Binary Badger

Just saw [Vortex Street's post], sounds like the same exact symptoms on 13.2. On a plain jane 11.

iphone 11 pro. Updated to 13.2, deleted and reinstalled the app, same behavior:

- Clicking on a thread with unread posts decrements the unread post count by a page’s worth of posts, or if less than a page of posts was unread, the count goes to zero. The thread however does not open and the app freezes. - The next time I open the app, the thread is now open to that page but the app is frozen. - Depending on the mix of iphone dark mode and app dark mode, that open page is blank — Vortex Street

Just for shits and giggles, updated to iOS 13.2.2, same results.

Deleted the app, rebooted the iPhone, downloaded again from the App Store, I get the same reversed background at the login page and app crashes whenever you select a board afterwards.

Maybe it's an A13 based issue since there was someone with an iPad who had iOS 13.2 who didn't crash? And the other guy who complained had an 11 Pro Max (I have ghetto 11 plain) — Binary Badger

Problems I mentioned before (login screen has inverse video, favorites show but when thread is selected all it does is mark one page's worth unread and locks up after) are still there.

Same problem here. A11 based phone and nothing would load and just hang when you click on any board. Latest ios and awful app and tried multiple reinstall of app and login/clear cache too. — Encrypted

I still can't open literally anything on my XR, after a month or two and multiple iOS updates. I can log in fine, then clicking anything freezes up the app completely. If I open it back up after waiting a few minutes it either gives me a network error or it loads whatever forum or topic I was clicking on. Works fine on my iPad. Can't figure it out. — Couch Life

Nah, v.4.0 iOS still doesn't work for me for some reason.

I can now enter forums name and password, but everything else locks up, don't know what it could be. Select a board, lockup. Select bookmark, then try to enter thread, lockup. Try to change browser from Awful to anything else, lockup. Power down, then power back up, launch app, do anything I just mentioned, lockup. Messages and Lepers work.

Still running iOS 13.3, iPhone 11. Last thing I'm gonna try is a backup, then format and restore firmware from iTunes.

Ok I figured it out - the issue (on my Xs, anyway) is when you enable "Prefer Cross-Fade Transitions" in Settings > Accessibility > Motion. When that's enabled the Awful app stops working, but when you disable the setting it goes back to working as normal. So I guess cross-fade makes Awful cross-eyed. — Dicty Bojangles
