Show Sidebar button is missing after reopening Awful #977

Steps to reproduce:

  1. On iPad in portrait orientation, open a thread.
  2. Leave Awful.
  3. Do other things.
  4. Return to Awful.

Expected: The "show sidebar" < button is available in the top left corner.

Observed: There is no button in the top left corner.

Notes: Can't tell if this is related to Awful getting kicked out of memory. I suspect not, but it's also seemingly not as simple as "open some other app then come right back to Awful".

This seems to be new since the recent iOS 13 crash fix, where we were restoring the button in an inappropriate split view delegate method implementation.

If I leave the app and come back it seems to add a back button that does nothing, at least on ipad. Latest app/iOS as far as I know and this seems recent. — power crystals

I’m getting a weird issue on iPad where, whenever I switch from the Awful app to another app — and then go back again to the awful app — the top-left back button is gone. (Closing and re-opening the app completely brings it back.) — DirtyRobot
