Boost a dApp for the win! #45

Closed grantshares-dapp[bot] closed 1 year ago

grantshares-dapp[bot] commented 1 year ago

Abstract

Forthewin is building an all-in-one solution for crypto startups with providing no-code smart contract services.

We found a pattern that most dApps follow based on observing 5 years of web3 development: 1) Issuing tokens, 2) crowdfunding, 3) vesting, 4) voting, and 5) listing.

Looking at the 5 steps above, all involve a certain degree of technical knowledge, especially smart contract development. The problem lies, particularly, that smart contract development is complex for startups. It is a dangerous and costly task.

Forthewin is a platform that provides services that web3 teams can use for those instead of building their own smart contracts. This helps them to focus on their core ideas and save resources.

Proposal Information

Description

Forthewin is the simplest way for someone to start a project in the Neo ecosystem. Our service called Smith helps users to deploy their own token contracts with a few clicks.

Smith has been used by 20 NEP-17 tokens and 7 NEP-11 tokens. Most projects are active and it has been helping NEO to increase daily transactions and to bring new users.

Weโ€™ve got great feedback from other web3 founders and investors in Draperโ€™s sessions because it is a fresh idea that theyโ€™ve never seen in other chains.

So far, we could raise around $13,000 USD from a hackathon by NEO to accomplish all the aforementioned points/features.

Given the current state of FTW, this proposal aims to ask Grantshares for a grant in order to accelerate FTW platform to the next stage. We will mainly focus on making more users and traffic in the next 6 months.

Motivation

Weโ€™ve witnessed Binance Smart Chain has grown rapidly with a ton of meme coin creations in 2020 which brought new developers and users to the chain. They have been growing exponentially since then. Projects are users of blockchain. N3 is an attractive chain that has some distinguished features than other chains. Forthewin wants to bring this business into NEO in order to enlarge the NEO ecosystem.

Goals

Forthewin is in a very early stage, however we have a lengthy amount of experience in the web3 industry. Forthewin will help and educate new web3 teams how to plan and start their tokens and how to manage the tokens in a healthy way. Also we want to be a place where investors can discover very early stage gems.

Deliverables & Roadmap

Bringing new projects

Forthewin has access to use NEP tokens that are allocated for startup incubation. We are going to use the funds for contests and initial LP support to help web3 startups and even people who want to try web3 business.

We had a meme coin contest on the N3 testnet a few months ago.

https://medium.com/@Forthewin_network/meme-coin-contest-on-n3-testnet-c4ac5fd0b840

We had many teams participating and many new tokens were created. Competition between teams could make a big synergy for marketing. The event was successful to introduce the FTW ecosystem. Some teams are continuing their projects on N3 mainnet and actively building.

We are going to plan bigger scale contests on N3 mainnet. We are confident to bring more projects using our experience from the testnet contest with the startup funds. We want to build long term relationships with quality teams from the contests to grow together.

We believe the best marketing way in crypto is viral. We will do our best to find potential web3 projects and make great stories of success

Deliverable costs:

Listings

Integration support & listings

As a startup dex, our priority is to increase popularity and credibility. First of all, we need to have a standard data api that is required by many popular crypto platforms such as CMC and Coingecko.

We already built our backend ground for data service. We will target to integrate our dex data with dApps in the NEO ecosystem first.

Once we finish with the Neo eco integrations, we will start contacting platforms outside Neo to be listed as an exchange and as tokens that are traded in our dex.

We also want to find reasonable centralized exchange listing opportunities during the process which can increase our popularity and credibility in a different way.

Deliverable costs:

Contract audit

We will ask Overlord (https://overlord.wtf) for Locker contract (Vesting platform we launched lately) smart contract audit. We will open our smart contract code to the NEO community. More open source code can help other developers.

Deliverable costs:

About You / Your Organization

Short-Bio

A full-stack dev for 10 years. I've been building dApps on Neo since 2017.

Portfolio of Projects / Past Experience

Forthewin introduced a decentralized lottery platform in NEO legacy. It used users and our tokens to verify tickets and calculate prize which is a POW concept at dApp level. The idea worked well until the N3 announcement. Team paused the project because it only worked with the zero fee structure that NEO legacy had. Teams were no longer interested in NEO. However, I decided to stay.

Since N3 launch, what Forthewin has been done :

Hey @ediopia

Thanks for the proposal! ๐Ÿš€ โ˜˜๏ธ

I thought you would give some time for other DAO Members (besides AxLabs and NNT) to give you feedback and, based on this, have the chance to adapt the proposal BEFORE putting on-chain (if necessary).

GrantShares has a feature now that allows proposal edits before the on-chain phase.

But now that you already put the proposal on-chain, there's no room for "edits" anymore. ๐Ÿ˜…

Creating the proposal and putting it on-chain right after basically gives the message of "ok, no dialog, just vote".

Anyway, let's see what others would say about it.

ediopia commented 1 year ago

@gsmachado Thanks for greeting โ˜˜๏ธ

My bad. I couldnโ€™t think that way. I thought it would extend our previous proposals.

Yes! I am looking forward to listen community thoughts.

DylanNNT commented 1 year ago

I'll preface my response with two things a) I'm in favor of distributing the grant to Forthewin and b) Ed is a genuine person who has been BUIDLing in the Neo ecosystem since the Legacy days circa 2018. When Ed first submitted his proposal, it lacked focus, was too large in scale, and didn't have any real deliverables identified. He was asked to resubmit the proposal, and worked with GrantShares members to draft this proposal we see now.

If there's any consternation of mine, it's a lack of following a process and of steel-manning potentially complex issues. I don't want to stir up any dust, so I'll just use a recent example; those who helped Ed shape the grant asked for some time for others to provide insight into in case it needed any changes. Then, the proposal was immediately put onchain, without this comment period. With this funding, I'd like to feel confident that future FTW modules will go through a more rigorous form of mental gymnastics before they're released.

That said, Ed builds products on behalf of users and for developers in the Neo ecosystem. FTW is full of tools that make it the easiest way to onboard new users and developers into the ecosystem. I've used FTW to help onboard a local university, and now they're interested on building a product on Neo.

Overall, Ed's a good actor, great for the Neo ecosystem, and has already built a suite of tools without support from the GrantShares community funding DAO. Further, the FTW NFT projects have both integrated utility with other dApps in the ecosystem. That is also a positive attribute that FTW has brought to the ecosystem.

The new proposal includes a line item for contract audits from OverLord, who have audited many contracts in the Neo ecosystem. So, I feel like my previous concerns are somewhat addressed with some of the funding allocated for this purpose. This is my .02 GAS, but if someone were to endorse the proposal, I don't see why it should not reach a quorum in favor of distributing funding.

steven1227 commented 1 year ago

Forthewin is a great platform and ED is a very experienced developer in the Neo ecosystem. The proposal here states the new plan and it satisfies all the requirements. Although Forthewin got some reward and funds from other way before, it sounds like the milestone in this proposal is independent.

One question, for the first purpose We are going to use the funds for contests and initial LP support to help web3 startups and even people who want to try web3 business. That means you will use this part of funds to provide LP for those new project's token?

ediopia commented 1 year ago

@steven1227 Thank you for your warmth greeting. Correct. It won't be easy to verify team's credibility but we will find the way. Adding one updated fact is FrankCoin was one of the winners of our testnet meme contest. I am very happy to see his progress.

csmuller commented 1 year ago

Even though, I'd prefer even more concrete deliverables, i'm in favor of this proposal, because it is a clear extension to what FTW already does and sounds like a good opportunity for the Neo ecosystem in general.

I'm not sure if we should endorse the proposal now, or if it will get lost in the christmas/end-of-year craze, and we should wait till January... ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

csmuller commented 1 year ago

Hi @ediopia, any updates on your work under this grant? I'm curious to see were FTW is going in this year :)

ediopia commented 1 year ago

@csmuller. It has been dynamic days for Forthewin. We have recently established partnerships with some of the leading players, Defillama and Poly Network. These collaborations have enabled us to expand our reach and offer our users even more valuable tools and resources.

Additionally, we have recently rewritten our C# smart contract code to Solidity and have been testing it on the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). We are currently in the process of auditing our code and plan to go live on the mainnet in the near future.

We believe that expanding our user base before launching our main event, the Meme Coin Contest, will help us achieve even greater success. To that end, we have been considering open sourcing a comparison between Neo smart contracts and Solidity contracts, which could be valuable for Solidity developers looking to learn Neo.

Thank you for your continued support. We are excited about the progress we've made and look forward to sharing more updates with you soon!

csmuller commented 1 year ago

Thanks for the report. Great to hear about the progress. I'm curious what your plans are with the new partnerships. Did you form these also for expanding into a broader ecosystem?

ediopia commented 1 year ago

Yes, to expand our reach and credibility in the broader web3 ecosystem. We will try with key players' platforms in the near future too.

gsmachado commented 1 year ago

@ediopia thanks for the report.

I just want to remind you that it's important to provide clear results to the community once FTW accomplishes things in relation to the grant requested on THIS proposal.

At the end of the day, the community would like to know how the grant is being spent, and whether it brought meaningful results.

ediopia commented 1 year ago

@gsmachado I've been working on a plan that wasn't included in this proposal, but I'm confident that it will enhance the main event of the proposal at the end. I understand the importance of keeping the community informed about how the grant is being spent, and I will make sure to share progress updates in a timely manner.

csmuller commented 1 year ago

Hey @ediopia, I can see that the FTW web page is an good state, and has gained some traction ๐Ÿ‘ Any updates on the contract audit of the Locker contracts you were planning in the scope of this project?

ediopia commented 1 year ago

@csmuller I hope you're doing well. As I previously mentioned regarding our EVM expansion plan, we've had two EVM contract audits done by Overload: one for swap and the other for farm (staking).

We recently launched our Bridge and EVM Smith (Token Launcher). The meme coin contest plan has been delayed as we'd like it to be available on Ethereum as well. I'll keep you posted on further updates!

Hi @KayAppeal, those are valid concerns and thanks for the efforts of going through transaction data. I think part of this grant was meant to be used as kind of a salary, thus, it's not entirely wrong if Ed used some token by himself or for possible coworkers.

But, we definitely need to shed some light on the work performed under this grant. @ediopia please present some evidence that shows the outcome of this work. Examples:

ediopia commented 10 months ago

@gsmachado @csmuller We have successfully managed our grant and were able to extend our development period thanks to the recovery of Neo's price.

Here are the things we have accomplished with GS support:

Thank you again, Grant Shares. The grant has supported FTW remarkably and helped us to pivot perfectly in preparation for Neo X. We are looking forward to proposing another proposal aimed at a successful launch on Neo X.

@KayAppeal thank you for your bookkeeping. It has saved us a lot of time :)

Features that were implemented for the forthewin.network web app this year.

Niicceeee

antecrypto commented 10 months ago

Seems to be he accomplished everything stated.

FTW expanded to EVM before Neo X was even announced. Connected to Polygon / Ethereum live on Mainnet for anybody to use. This in itself is in a way "marketing" for the chain as it just opened up bridges from Neo to Polygon and Ethereum. It's prime meme coin season and FTW provides easy token creation on Neo, Polygon and Ethereum. That's massive.

He has the audit reports from Overload, I'm sure Overload can confirm it was completed internally.

The only thing not yet completed seems to be "Possibly a token listing with a CEX". Keyword: Possibly.

I can confirm there has been exchanges that reached out to me about TTM/FTW but the agreement wasn't in the benefit of our communities so we passed.

0 has been used for the deliverables

All we see is deliverables.

Most of the completed deliverables is in plain view or can be easily handled in an internal convo between parties involved. As project owner and developer..makes complete sense for pay himself out for the hours upon hours and hours put into building FTW. That is what the grant is for isn't it? Makes so much more sense to go with the experience developer, who owns the project, and has been developing on Neo since legacy than hire a random dev..doesn't it?

The Neo Ecosystem is slowly growing thanks to programs like Grant Shares. I have been seeing more and more projects pop up and get the help they need. But as we all know...even with GrantShares...there's not a lot of teams on the Neo Ecosystem. Pointless bashing doesn't encourage new devs to come along and it definitely doesn't motivate current teams building in the ecosystem.

Developing = Work Hours. Time is money.

cschuchardt88 commented 10 months ago

You can't buy anything on Ethereum or Polygon, its worthless, you can only send to it. Once there, nothing to do with it. To be talking that kind of money i would be expect it to be professionally done, for someone taking $5,000 a month for nothing. Its nothing and always will be nothing, but junk.

I didn't ask you to fix anything, I just stated the facts. If I wasted your time, Ah No! You did by replying.
