College DAO: Bringing the NEO Blockchain to College Campuses #52

Abstract

College DAO is the first student-led cross-college community bringing Web3 education and opportunities to college campuses. We're expanding our network of schools, and building an Academy and Careers Platform that would educate students about the blockchain, how to get started and how to develop on various chains.

Proposal Information

Description

We are in the process of developing our Academy Platform that we're planning to launch in February 2023. This platform would include courses sponsored by various blockchain, exchanges, protocols and companies introducing their ecosystems and how students can get started developing with their technologies, building communities, or using specific tools and products.

Students will be able to deploy smart contracts onto test nets, and we would build features that would run checks on the tasks that the students complete. At the end of the courses, students will be able to mint an NFT as certification upon completing a course, that would help to qualify them for career opportunities that are meant for more specialized roles in the future.

Motivation

We are applying for funding to finance the development and deployment of the Academy, and to build the first set of courses on our platform. Additionally, we hope to collaborate with the Neo team to work out the curriculum, validate the content for our platform, and distribute the materials on a wide scale.

Goals

Our main goal is to democratize access to Web3 education and to simplify how people interested in the blockchain can get started. This removes a lot of the over-complicated jargon and courses that could be intimidating to new-comers, and helps students directly learn skills and technologies that would be related to job opportunities that they are interested in applying to.

This helps to develop the Web3 ecosystem, and the Neo community in particular as we are hoping to launch a course that helps student builders get acquainted with Neo's technologies, opportunities and ecosystem. This would help to increase awareness of Neo's blockchain, opportunities to get started, and guide students to take manageable steps towards building on Neo.

Deliverables & Roadmap

Specify deliverables in detail, including the following info for each:

Product Roadmap

Neo Curriculum Roadmap

Deliverables Verifiability

How would the community be able to verify that the promised deliverables (or milestones) were successfully achieved?

The community will be able to verify that the promised deliverables were successfully achieved from our website at https://collegedao.io. They can also stay up to date on our platforms like:

Budget Plan

The overall budget for the project is 30,000 USD. This would be split between product development, marketing, and business development:

About College DAO

Short-Bio

College DAO is the first student-led cross-college community based in the US bringing Web3 education and opportunities to college campuses.

Portfolio of Projects / Past Experience

At the moment, our community of over 750 students hails from over 27 top colleges around the world like Stanford, Berkeley, Yale, National University of Singapore, NTU and the University of Michigan. We have hosted 15+ events ranging from protocol workshops to hackathons and demo days with chains like Neo, in Q4 2022, where we helped to power many of its workshops during its US Campus Tours.

We have established College DAO in the United States and Singapore, and will be working to build our networks in the UK, India, Vietnam and Australia in the near future.

More than 300 students attended our workshops, and our Twitter spaces have reached an audience of over 2,000. We are currently looking to expand our network of universities and Web3 companies to build a more deeply connected college blockchain community.

why nobody is talking about this?! 🤔

@CollegeDAO can you please tell us what has changed in the project from when you submitted this proposal?

gsmachado commented 1 year ago

@CollegeDAO: do you guys have notifications enabled?

gsmachado commented 1 year ago

This proposal still seems interesting. However, it seems @CollegeDAO abandoned it. 😢 😭

I would love to hear more about what you guys are up to and how our ecosystem might help!

CollegeDAO commented 1 year ago

Hey @gsmachado ! After extensive customer research and discovery with our college network, we identified that while the Academy and the Careers platform would be a massive value add to our community, another pressing need that student blockchain communities feel that affect their operations more would be a platform for them to manage their partnerships and operations directly. Hence, we are looking to reprioritize our development roadmap and build an Operating System (CampusConnect) to support that first. We would likely be postponing this proposal off for now, and writing a separate grant proposal for CampusConnect with more details on how it would connect the Neo ecosystem with the college community, and how the Academy and Careers modules will be built on top of it.

@CollegeDAO understood! Yes, we're excited to hear more about CampusConnect and how this fits into our ecosystem!
