Abstract

Neo-Kenya Community is a community-based initiative that will focus on promoting community engagement and education on the Neo Blockchain through different approaches like onboarding developers from different communities, growing the general community and strengthening university relations.

This project will focus on organizing community events, developer workshops, and university meetups to empower the community with Neo Blockchain. These gatherings will target university students, the general community and developers willing to explore the Web3 space and leverage Neo Blockchain to solve the existing problems in the community.

Proposal Information

Neo-Kenya Community will aim at attracting, educating, and leveraging blockchain technology by building on NEO, and also help businesses to develop the skills needed to utilize blockchain technology in the region.

Description

The project will aim at growing the community through education, developer onboarding, and university relations for Neo Blockchain and its ecosystem in Nairobi, Kenya. The project will also focus on raising awareness and promoting adoption by building a vibrant and inclusive community of developers, educators, and enthusiasts.

To achieve this, this project will organize workshops, meetups, and events to educate the community about Neo Blockchain technology, its applications, and potential benefits. These events will provide a platform for developers to learn about Neo developer docs and tools, as well as showcase their skills through various meetups. Furthermore, the project will also focus on building strong partnerships with universities in Nairobi to introduce Neo Blockchain Clubs and foster a vibrant and active community to boost research and development resources, and foster collaboration between students and industry players.

Why Nairobi? Nairobi is the capital city of Kenya and is best known as the economic hub of Africa with diverse investment opportunities. According to Partech Analysis, Nigeria and Kenya are the top-ranked countries on the continent for CV investment in Africa in 2020(600 million dollars). Kenya is one of the largest refugee-hosting nations in Africa and has seen rapid growth in different industries ranging from large businesses and industries to finance and technology etc. Blockchain technology has been leveraged in the community and this has helped tackle different challenges existing in different communities ranging from DeFi solutions like on and off ramps solutions, digital identities, traceability and many other use cases.

This project will focus on onboarding developers to the Neo ecosystem, introducing university relations(blockchain clubs) and creating general awareness about Neo and the broad ecosystem through community meetups or events and developer workshops.

This project will also focus on equipping the community members with knowledge about blockchain technology, relevant use cases such as digital identities, decentralised storage and other fundamental resources needed to leverage this technology in the region to solve existing problems.

The mission of this project is to provide comprehensive education and knowledge on blockchain technology and its applications, as well as train developers to transition to Web3 and businesses to utilize blockchain technology and Neo to solve existing problems in the region.

This program will range from community meetups with the purpose of general awareness, and onboarding the developer community to Neo, its ecosystem and real-world use cases.

This project will be a pipeline to strengthen blockchain technology, particularly the DeFi use case, and the Neo ecosystem, in the community and the region at large.

Goals

The primary goal of this project is to empower the developer community, onboard curious and passionate developers, and help them in their transition to Web3, utilizing Neo to learn and build solutions to the challenges existing in our traditional financial industry.

The goal of this project is to educate and engage the community on the potential of blockchain technology and provide a platform for learning, adoption and development leveraging Neo. We believe that blockchain technology has the potential to revolutionize various industries and society as a whole, and our main goal is to foster a community of individuals who are knowledgeable and actively involved with this technology and grow the community globally.

Additionally, the goal of this project is to raise awareness and educate people about Neo Blockchain, cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology, and relevant use cases in the community, and also source for talent and onboard different people ranging from the general community to developers, to grow the Neo ecosystem at large.

Deliverables & Roadmap

First Milestone

We will kick off the program in the first month with a series of two community events aimed at educating members and creating awareness about the Neo and its ecosystem.

We will kickstart this milestone with a general community meetup, exploring the general Neo ecosystem and sourcing for developers who are passionate about contributing and building blockchain and DeFi solutions.

We will host a workshop to onboard developers and explore developer documentation with hands-on experience at a beginner level.

We will also source talent and onboard developers with the right resources to get them started learning how to develop web3 projects and DeFi solutions for the community and how they can leverage Neo.

These two meetups will be hosted at iHub and Nairobi Garage(co-working space and technology hubs).

Second Milestone

We will organize and hold two technical workshops on specific topics, i.e. DeFi and lending protocols.

We will also host the first cohort of developers interested in building DeFi solutions. This milestone will include hands-on practical sessions to explore and develop beginner smart contracts and Dapps that incorporate.

In this milestone, the two meetups will be hosted at iHub and at Strathmore University

Third Milestone

We will organize a technical workshop and onboard the second cohort of developers to the Neo ecosystem, providing them with resources and guidance to help them get started.

Furthermore, during these milestones, there will be translations of major publications or announcements for better community outreach.

In this last milestone, the meetups will be hosted at Nairobi Garage or the University of Nairobi and East African University

Roadmap Overview

We target 40 - 60 attendees per meetup or workshop. The target audience will be the general and developer community i.e. developers from existing web3 communities, web2 communities and university clubs.

The project will have 3 milestones. The roadmap will include community meetups, technical workshops and ideathons.

The target audience will be the general and developer community i.e. developers from existing web3 communities, web2 communities and university clubs.

These happenings or events will target developers from the University of Nairobi, Strathmore University, Technical University of Kenya, Daystar University and the Web2 and Web3 developers existing in different communities.

These meetups will happen at iHub, Nairobi Garage, Strathmore University, East African University and the university of Nairobi.

Deliverables Verifiability

How would the community be able to verify that the promised deliverables (or milestones) were successfully achieved?

All milestones will be open to the community, they will be shared with the team, the telegram and the discord community with updates. Metrics such as photos and videos, emails and event feedback will be evident in the promised deliverables.

Budget Plan

What are the overall required resources (i.e., budget)?

Provide reasons why the requested budget is a good fit for the proposal.

The overall budget

How the budget would be used to achieve the project goal?

Hi @mukunde - Thanks for the proposal.

One of the first things I consider in a workshop / community building like this is “Am I confident that the proposer has the technical knowledge, network, and track history to deliver what has been promised?” Some of the things I’ll look at is:

When I put this proposal under that lens I’m finding that I’m not seeing a lot of things that give me confidence. For example:

With these types of doubts in mind it would be hard for me to vote to distribute $9,000 in funding.

My suggestion to you would be to rework your proposal so that it a) provides more verifiable information on your previous experience and ability to deliver, and b) is broken into smaller proposals so that you can build trust and confidence in the GrantShares voters by delivering on one piece at a time.

Hey @deanragnarok, Thanks for the feedback.

The website is in the early stages of development and we are looking for a better way to structure the events page on the website and proper ways for verification, key success metrics, better-updated content, verifiable case studies and events to support the work we do.

Regarding Twitter being inactive, we were still sourcing talent perfect for content creation and social media marketing. However, considering the support we are looking for, it would enable us to diversify our team and make it an active and vibrant community.

Secondly, We have a team with competent skills in blockchain development and industry skills including community building and management, university relations and marketing. We have a diverse team specializing in different fields to empower and grow the community.

Otherwise, thank you for the kind response, I look forward to resubmitting the proposal again with more verifiable case studies and information
