World of Elements: A new game for the Neo blockchain, presented by FrankCoin #92

Abstract

Greetings GrantShares!

I am Frank from FrankCoin (your most frank memetoken on the Neo blockchain) and currently working on our new game "World of Elements".

World of Elements (in short WoE) is a single player 2D Role-Playing-Game (created with RPG MAKER MV) and a homage to old 2D games, such as Final Fantasy or Secret of Mana.  You are a chosen hero and try to save the world "Elementia" from impending destruction. WoE aims to become a play-to-earn game, where players are rewarded just for playing the game.

Games always attract users and with the help of the Neo blockchain, I want to grow not only the FrankCoin community but also the whole Neo community.

Proposal Information

Description

This proposal is a request for funding the development of the game "World of Elements".

With additional funds we can finally have marketing campaigns, more resources for the game itself, more community events and integrate the Neo blockchain.

Motivation

Funding is a very important aspect for a community token, especially for FrankCoin, where everything is paid for with own funds. There was no presale or other funding.

We had a grant granted once (do you say it like this?) https://github.com/AxLabs/grantshares/issues/39 and are truly grateful for that. However, with this grant we are not allowed to take part in current hackathons. So we are asking for funds once again here on GrantShares.

I´ve always wanted to create my own game and with WoE I can fulfill this dream.

Part of it is already finished and playable. WoE is free to play for now, you can gladly try it out:

Android:

https://easyupload.io/84n1u6

https://www.dropbox.com/s/cpu6go2h89839n5/woe.apk?dl=0

The community had a lot of fun with it so far. That´s why I want to keep on developing the game. Players could find hidden codes in the game, post them in our Telegram channel and I´ve sent them 1 NEO/code. But the community (and myself) like to have a true crypto integration. And which blockchain would be better suited for this than Neo? :)

Goals

The main goals are

As mentioned before, games always attract users. Almost everyone has played a computer game in their life. Especially play-to-earn games where you can earn while playing are still a huge thing in the WEB3 space. Because of that, I´m confident to grow the community and with that the Neo blockchain.

New users need to create a Neo wallet if they want to earn. Furthermore, they learn how to interact with the Neo blockchain - even if it´s just to send and sell their earned crypto. Also players can get their own "content":

I haven´t made it public yet, but you can have your own NPC named after you or a custom made quest. For example "NeoDashboard" got his own quest in the game. Costs: 10 GAS

Deliverables & Roadmap

Total Estimated Duration: 90 days

Full-Time Equivalent (FTE): 1

Total Budget: 552 NEO

For the next 3 months our roadmap will include:

Deliverables Verifiability

I can provide screenshots of the game development (for example from the Neo integration). Additionally I can release a game version after the estimated duration time, so everyone can see for themselves what we have been working on during the last months.

The meme contest on meme2earn shouldn´t be too hard to proof. On https://meme2earn.com/contest/overview/archived you can see all contests.

A website especially made for the game WoE can get a link on the official FrankCoin website.

Budget Plan

The overall required resources are about 4700$ (~ 552 NEO at 8,5$/NEO).

This includes:

I´ve done the groundwork on the game and with one additional helper who is creating maps (with houses, trees, objects in general) I can create a lot of more playable content in a short time.

Marketing, otherwise it would be hard to get new players:

= 1050$ = 124 NEO

Funds for "other stuff":

= 1200$ = 140 NEO

As you can see, the budget is not only meant for the game development and marketing during the next 3 months, but also for the long term. To become a self-substained game, I need this funds during this early stage. In the long term, I´m planning to finance the game through other different sources. For example the mentioned custom made quests for players/payers.

About You / Your Organization

Short-Bio

My name is Frank, I´m 35 years old and from Germany. I have a Bachelor's degree in "culture and technology" and more than 6 years of experience in the crypto space.

Community Manager:

"Yungkris Neoboy" - National diploma holder, Computer scientist (graphic designer/art designer), Music artist, NFT creator, from Nigeria

Portfolio of Projects / Past Experience

I've been the head of a few gaming guilds (from 20 to 100 members).

As for the crypto space, I am the creator of FrankCoin and I´ve done almost 200 FrankCoin events (quiz, games,...). We have 300 Telegram members and 800 Twitter followers. Also I´m an active community member and a proud bearer of the Ambassador Award from Flamingo.Finance. I´d like to do more (had to cancel my GhostMarket ambassador job), but as you can imagine, working on a game is very time consuming.

Hi Frank! Great to see another proposal you've put forth, and I've been following the game you've been building for many months now. It's great to see a long-standing Neo community member building a GameFi product in the ecosystem and leveraging the Neo blockchain.

The biggest concern for me is that as an iOS user, I still can't test out the game. I understand that this might be part of the reason you're seeking funding to hire a second dev and help propel the project forward. However, there's no mention of iOS development in the proposal, which (in my opinion) takes precedent over any marketing and promotion events. Why should a game be marketed when only a portion of mobile users can access it?

Another thing I'm interested in learning more about is the proposed timeline if the funding request is successful. When can users expect to begin playing the game and earning NEP-11 or NEP-17 rewards? When will Neo N3 MainNet be integrated? What are the ways in which you hope to leverage Neo?

I'd also like to hear a little more about the gaming guilds you've been a part of, and what lessons you've taken from those experiences that lead you to be confident in your ability to deliver?

Ultimately, WoE's success would be a really great narrative about a grass roots project arising from the Neo ecosystem. But, I still don't feel like the current direction makes the game inclusive for all mobile users, and would like to hear how you plan to address these concerns!

Hope that I'm not taking any winds out of your sails, but providing some constructive criticism for a project I'd like to see come to fruition and have success.

Hey, I´m also happy to bring another proposal to GrantShares and to be part of the increasing Neo community for a long time already. Even in these bear market times, it looks like everyone is building like crazy on Neo.

Yeah, that´s still a big problem. I know there are many iOS users in the community (why? better use Android :) ). But even the Android version is just an extra. My full focus lies in the Windows/desktop version for now. That means mobile takes second priority. A lot of things on mobile are not working as intended and it is very very time consuming to fix all errors which are mobile exclusive. To give you a peace of mind: Should the proposal be approved and I can finance an own website for WoE, I´ll take a look at a browser based version. This way every user (mobile/desktop) should be able to play the game. Timeline: End of the year.

Another thing I'm interested in learning more about is the proposed timeline if the funding request is successful. When can users expect to begin playing the game and earning NEP-11 or NEP-17 rewards? When will Neo N3 MainNet be integrated? What are the ways in which you hope to leverage Neo?

As soon as the funding request is successful, I´ll start to fully integrate the Neo blockchain. As mentioned before, at first for the Windows version. So users can expect to begin playing the game and earning NEP-17 rewards with the next update. Depending on the speed of the funding, I guess we´ll have the update about mid September. At first users can earn FrankCoin (and maybe small amounts of GAS or other Neo token) and withdraw them. I just need to figure out a way, so it cannot be exploited. The next step is the NEP-11 integration. For example DogeRift NFT holders could get a special character/skin or ingame item. This way I can even make it "Neo multiverse like".

To leverage Neo I plan to marketing the game of course. Also I´ll create a short tutorial at the start of the game, which is asking the user if they want to earn during the game and if they are familiar with crypto. If they want to earn and don´t have a Neo wallet yet, they can create one. This way I can bring in new users to the Neo blockchain. They get a great and enjoyable game and they get to know the Neo blockchain through the earning mechanism.

I'd also like to hear a little more about the gaming guilds you've been a part of, and what lessons you've taken from those experiences that lead you to be confident in your ability to deliver?

I was the leader of the first and one of the biggest guilds for the game Sacred "Da Sacred Clan". I have learned a lot about how to deal with other players :). Also I was one of the leaders of a very big (and in my opinion) successful World of Warcraft guild "Myrmidonen". You had to manage a raid with !! 40 players playing at the same time !! - including hours of preparation before the start and after the raid. Moreover, WoW still is the non plus ultra when it comes to MMO´s and gaming in general. I want to take a lot of positive things from the game and add a few missing parts to it, so that WoE can become an awesome game. The world, interactions and game design itself is something I learned from the game.

Ultimately, WoE's success would be a really great narrative about a grass roots project arising from the Neo ecosystem. But, I still don't feel like the current direction makes the game inclusive for all mobile users, and would like to hear how you plan to address these concerns!

Yeah, I think there wasn´t even a single bad review about the game. Everyone who played the game was happy. As mentioned before, I didn´t really plan to make it for mobile. I did create a mobile version, just because a lot of community members were asking for it. I´m not familiar with iOS or Mac. However, to address these concerns I can start making a browser version for WoE and then everyone should be happy.

Hope that I'm not taking any winds out of your sails, but providing some constructive criticism for a project I'd like to see come to fruition and have success.

All good, your concerns and questions are justified. Hopefully I could answer most of them. Feel free to ask more :).

Hey Frank.

I'm glad you are now expanding your project and working on a game. I supported the idea from day one, and you are doing a great job keeping the Neo community interactive on the Discord channel. I already know the whole story. You are an old community member; my questions are very similar to Dylan's, as he already asked them. You gave the answers. I can only support the progress of your project development, and I wish you good luck; you have my support.

Mrxdaunknown commented 1 year ago

Thank you Boris! I really appreciate your support and doing my best to keep the Neo community engaged. That´s why I´m still working hard on the game and making good progress. As you can see on the screenshot, I´m currently preparing a quest for the start of the crypto integration. I´m really eager to integrate the Neo blockchain into my game. image306

I´d really like to get some more comments from our GrantShares members :). @shargon @lllwvlvwlll @devhawk @JohndeVadoss @steven1227 @igormcoelho @deanragnarok @hacfox @realloc @csmuller

I know all of you are kinda busy, but some of you could at least take a look at the GrantShares proposals every 14 days. Projects want to know if they can expect some support or not. And FrankCoin is no exception. Or should we just put it on chain? :)

Anyway: A small German Youtuber created the first 2 videos about the game:

https://youtu.be/6acHzOtV-5g?feature=shared https://youtu.be/BjZwC4kCHu8?feature=shared

Thanks for reading (and watching) and looking forward to comments/other feedback. Let´s grow the Neo community and show them the benefits of blockchain. With best regards, Frank.

PS: As mentioned before, after implementing the Neo blockchain into the game, I´ll create a small tutorial about the Neo blockchain if players decide to earn.

steven1227 commented 1 year ago

Just review the proposal and get the points. I appreciate Frank's long-term work. The game looks interesting but from Youtube I did not see the neo integration yet, maybe you can share more progress. But from my perspective, I would vote yes for this game.

Hey, thanks for your comment steven. The Neo integration isn´t live yet and still being worked on. It´s one of the big milestones of this proposal. However, I have already set up most NPC´s for it and even created a quest for it. (see 2 comments above your comment :) ) I only need to do the "hard integration part". image

Hey Frank, Have you put any thought into the economic model for the game that you would like to implement so the project can move towards self-sufficiency?

I'm a really big fan of classic rpgs and really like the creative direction that you've chosen to take.

Players can pay $GAS and choose to get custom quests or just an NPC named -> scroll down on https://frankcoin.jimdosite.com/world-of-elements/ http://url "The game is free to play at the moment. However, this might change in the near future. In order to fund the game development and give users the opportunity to become part of the game, we have some special offers: 1 $GAS = NPC name 3 $GAS = Custom made/own NPC (looks and name) for you, which will be a part of the game forever! 10 $GAS = Custom made/own NPC (looks and name) + 1 custom made/own Quest, which will be a part of the game forever! 20 $GAS = Custom made/own NPC (looks and name) + 1 custom made/own Quest + Game Key NFT (forever free to play) + special ingame armor"

It´s free to play for now, but with more content and the chance to earn while playing, I´ll change that at a certain point to a one-time-payment, which increases over time -> About 5$ at the start and then more expensive over time until we reach the end price of about 15$ -> Why not more? The majority of RPG Maker games cost about 5-15$. You can take a look at https://itch.io/ http://url - one of the biggest websites for indie games. However, let´s say I´m selling 10.000 copies of the game, then it would be about 50.000$. More than enough for self-suffiency and that would be a very huge success.

I´ll create a patreon page https://www.patreon.com http://url for WoE. This way, I can reach non-crypto players too. They can decide if they want to support me with a monthly fee or one time payments, which are similar to the $GAS payment options.

That´s the plan at the moment. I hope I could answer your question :).

Just small preview of the patchnotes:

Mrxdaunknown commented 1 year ago

About 10 days left for this proposal:

The last days I´ve been working on a playable demo for EVERYONE who wants to try the game:

https://worldofelements.itch.io/demo

It´s a browser version, which means you should be able to play it on every computer. It´s also "somehow" playable on mobile this way (with drawbacks, such as black boxes).

@DylanNNT

Of course it would be great, if some other GrantShares members could take a look at it now :). With best regards and wishing a happy playtime, Frank

Premium Filehosting

:+1:

Dropbox Plus

 I think you've misspelled NeoFS here. I'd even easily endorse it if it'd be NeoFS-integrated.

Currently ~ 3 hours playtime

have better item drops, more minigames, more sounds, more animations

How much do you expect playtime to be extended as a result of this grant?

My expectation is that this will be delivered in some form, but can we expect it to be a success or not is not clear (but I'm not the target audience, I have to admit). So it's risky, but doesn't require a huge budget to try, which is a positive sign to me.

Mrxdaunknown commented 1 year ago

Thanks for your feedback @roman-khimov:

About the NeoFS-integration: So you mean I should make it NeoFS exclusive? I don´t mind, as long as it´s fast and always up :). I even did an upload (about 300 mb) and it looks like it´s working. So, yeah, why not?

Also another container, which got public permission and one wallpaper:

CONTAINER ID 6GhJtEPSPbFiDy6eTB5YhptFcLtBUFYuqk3hHqBHVLzV

About the playtime: With the grant I´m able to integrate an awesome item drop system and more minigames. That alone should increase the playtime for some players (farming for best equipment). Of course there are going to be more main- and sidequests, which I can create way more faster with additional help.

The foundation of the game is nearly set, so I can "easily" work on more content now. I think I can double the playtime as a result of this grant - with the same or even better quality.

roman-khimov commented 1 year ago

So you mean I should make it NeoFS exclusive?

I can't, won't and shouldn't forbid you using additional storages if you'd like to for any reason. But I'd expect NeoFS to be at least one of them and I'd like it to be the primary one of course. It'll slim down your OPEX somewhat if nothing else. And we need more integrations for NeoFS while you need some storage, so it seems like a nice fit.

Mrxdaunknown commented 1 year ago

Yeah, as said before, I don´t mind being it the number 1 storage. I can release exclusive wallpapers and other stuff for the game on NeoFS. Maybe even a special game version later.

However, I would still need other download options, because I´d like to get more players and users which are not yet using the Neo blockchain. I´d like to give them a choice at the start of the game: They can earn, but they´ll need a Neo wallet address. So they can create one. And then they can earn, have fun and want more. Then they´ll get more on NeoFS with their Neo wallet address.

roman-khimov commented 1 year ago

You can store all of your static contents into NeoFS, it doesn't have to be Neo-specific. Just imagine that it's a kind of s3ish or dropboxy thing, what do you want to store there for your players? Music? Graphics? Some other level/character/item data? It can handle this data and deliver it to players.

Yes, I tried NeoFS via Greenfinch and it´s just like you said: kinda like dropbox (which is great!). And yes, music and graphics would be the mainpart.

Greetings GrantShares :),

I have been very busy with the game development (as always, haha) and I´d like to show you some results: About the integration of the Neo blockchain:

Yes, you can see my test location in these screenshots. I´m very happy I came this far already with the Neo integration.

What else is there to say?

That´s it for now. Working, building, growing. Stay tuned for more.

csmuller commented 1 year ago

@Mrxdaunknown Just a detail: are you doing a german and an english version or are you just using German to do the writing and then translate it to English?

Mrxdaunknown commented 1 year ago

Hey @csmuller I am creating one version, where you can switch the language in game options. I´m doing the writing mostly in German and then translate it to English. As mentioned before, it´s my room for doing tests. So not everything has been translated into English yet :). In the future I could even add more languages, Japanese for example. But for now I´m concentrating on English and German - that´s more than enough work.

image Greetings GrantShares 😉, we are very proud to present the next update of our game "World of Elements". It´s been a lot of work and there´s still a lot of work ahead of us, but I think we did a lot in the last months (especially me, but without my alphatesters and our additional developer it would have been impossible).

Just a very short summary:

= It´s a first step and still being worked on. My hired developer is currently busy with a hackathon, but we plan to create an account creation system which is making use of NeoFS. Also we need to integrate NeoLine for mobile users.

The game is also now playable on: https://worldofelements.net/

= That means it´s a full browser game now, which makes it playable on mobile, PC and all other devices with a browser (I guess 😁)

As you can see, the game got a lot of new features! The next update is about adding a lot of new content (quests/story).

csmuller commented 10 months ago

@Mrxdaunknown Thanks for the update and congrats for the progress!
