Fix MC-12410, which affects versions of Minecraft prior to 1.13 on Linux

Yes, while a solution to this is probably quite important for affected people, this is sadly not a good way to fix it. There's a significant issue with this approach: it only works on US keyboards. Our German keyboard, for example, has the keys " and & above 2 and 6, respectively.
