Consider: This will have an effect on every file field and will require extensive changes to add that data storage.

Consider the SEO impact of not having a distinct alt-text field on the accessibility rating of a website , or sites that are aiming to achieve certification in this area. The storage problem is easily solved with a database seperate from the web server, which most professional web-hosts will easily accomodate.
