It does that if the research requires an enchanted item. Auromancy has such research. Happened to me, too, ate a terrasteel pickaxe.
IMO, it should show a confirmation dialog of sorts for such wildcard requirements, showing exactly what it will eat. Or just remove the eating part, only require you to have the enchantments in the inventory.
Ouch, yeah, especially if it's going to eat a pickaxe that has been enchanted with a Horologium infused plate (Astral Sorcery- of which I used the last charge and now must wait another 32 in-game days to try to catch the next solar eclipse to remake the infused plate again that night LOL). I think a requirement of just an enchanted book would suffice in that case because a fully upgraded draconium pickaxe, with fortune 6 enchantment, is a bit absurd to lose over a low-tier research in a random mod imo
the fix is to not have more than one enchanted item in your inventory when doing that research
That's not a fix, that's a workaround.
I am not sure how to even go about replicating this issue now since I've completed the research (and can't really look back) that this happened on, but while researching items earlier I went to go begin a theory in the table, and I noticed that my toolbar slot 1 and 3 were empty. Now, I've had this happen before with other mod interactions but it would always be that i could open a crafting table or something and the items would reappear. However, I've tried everything I had in the past, including disconnecting and reconnecting to my server, and the items are still gone. They were the Draconic Pickaxe and the Dark Axe.
I've looked and confirmed that it is not in any of the chests in my Thaumcraft area, which I haven't left in about 5 hours (it's simply a 1x1 chunk- see pic below). I'd seen another post that seemed somewhat similar in nature and said to try breaking the chests/boxes/crates I've opened recently and it could be stuck inside, but to no avail.
So I am not exactly sure what would cause this interaction but I'm assuming that when you complete one of those research tabs that requires you to have made like 1 of each of these type things, and then it uses them up, that somehow one of those research requests pulled in more items than it should have, and items that aren't even required at that.
Has anyone else come across this issue yet?
Block interactions with mods: AA small crates, CFB sink, vanilla furnaces, tinks crafting station, vanilla brewing station. Everything else in that picture is TC6. Mod interactions: as noted above, I hadn't left this area in quite some time today. The only two mod interactions I'd had were using this TC6 setup in this single chunk, as well as using my wireless crafting bauble, which again does not contain the items.
