i can not make the wand with the iron caps im not able to craft them or the iron nuggets

I think the actual documentation about wands and all that is for Thaumcraft 5.

To get started in Thaumcraft 6, just do Salis mundus (to craft it you need 3 different vis crystals, redstone, flint and a bowl in your crafting table). Then put the salis mundus in your hand and right click a bookshelf with it so you get the Thaumonomicon. This book will guide you through the mod from now on.
