Golems need energy #106

I would definitely intend this to be a seperate mod, and would be willing to attempt to make it myself though I dont know whole lot aside from adding blocks and recipes.

I am certain some players find golems to be a little unbalanced compared to some machines that do the same task. they are easy to get going early game, and dont require power. On the complete opposite side of the same field you have buildcraft robots, which are hard to make, requires a decent setup of power to craft, and constantly need power to sustain.

I think golems should have 'life forces' that need to be replenshed over time. The depletion would depend on the type of golem, the stats and upgrades on that golem, and whatever actions it is doing. They would detect when they need to be replenished, go to a block connected to the fuel source and recharge. Im mainly thinking they would recieve victus essentia/vis and/or RF, EU, MJ.

Is your golem code availible to look at?

I somewhat like the idea, my only question is how do you 'recharge' their life force? Also, the code is available for tc4 in the thaumcraft api repo. Also avalable is the tc5 api.

whatever the fuel source is, either rf or essentia, (maybe even mana from botania) would be connected to a block that the golems would stand over. They would detect when they are at a critical level and go to the nearest recharging pad. Maybe it could be that its delivered through the air, like a lamp of growth. And golems dont know any better to go near it. I think that works better actually.

I couldnt find any golem specific files in the tc4 api. i see them in the 5 api, not sure how much compatibility difference there is

I think essentia/vis (or in chase of something like the flesh golem/zombie brain, food! We're already farming more than what we need, why not?) would be the right fuel. RF/EU (MJ is not relevant anymore) should be implemented by an addon. Maybe even through special golem components (flux powered computer as the mind'n stuff).

@JavaBeanJohnny, what version do you want this idea to be realized, just curious. Also, look at the golem-related ideas by webwraith, particularly #102 in the issues of this repo, just to get a sense for how to go about doing this.

Edit: By this, I mean going about making it "lore-friendly", as an early game A.I.
