Rituals - reworked to fit in with the new focus creation mechanics #258

Rituals would be a way to cast spells automatically.

The process for starting a ritual would be this: Shift right click on the runic matrix with a casting gauntlet equipped to change its mode from infusion mode to ritual mode.

A matrix in ritual mode can be right clicked with an empty hand to change a number of specifics about the ritual, in a similar fashion to a golem seal. The two main attributes that can be modified by default would be the target block for the ritual to be cast on, and the mode of the ritual (either channeled or sustained, as explained below).

To begin a ritual, simply insert a spell focus into the central pedestal of a ritual altar and right click the matrix with a casting gauntlet to begin the ritual. Rituals would also be subject to the same instability rules as an infusion, based on the complexity of the spell contained within the focus.


Rituals would come in 2 distinct types: Channeled and Sustained.

(Perhaps certain rituals would require item components at intervals or as an initial cost to begin the ritual?)

Sounds like an autocaster, but bigger and with more resources.

The problem is that many spells have limited range, and are more or less ranged attacks with limited range.

Touch, Self, Mine, and others spells modifiers would be useless, greatly reducing the variety and making the coding work not worth it. moreover in order to use it, monsters should be very close to the altar, and the altar should be in line of sight. if the spell is casted from the matrix there is also the problem of the pillars that occasionally could intercept the spell. moreover spells that cause fire would be way to dangerous in the base. The concept is really cool, but it would require building around a unique set of spells, with totally different target mechanics. Another way could be that the altar could give area buff like beacon, but sound to me quite far from the proposed concept. Maybe add a portal/mirror under the matrix? and transfer the spell to a linked portal/mirror that could work like a a turret?

Surely seem a great idea for an addon.
