Here is the Catapult Development Branch. While it isn't 100% complete, we've made quite some headway.

The Catapult can Rotate a full 360 degrees by holding 'E' on the "Rotation Gear". The direction it is facing is the direction it will launch
The catapult has a neat launch animation, courtesy of India. Two different parts to the animation
The preparation phase. When prepared, items can be loaded or unloaded from catapult.
The launch phase, whatever is in the catapult is launched and the catapult returns to its initial state
The catapult can load and launch items, players, or simply do the animation without launching anything.
Players can load themselves by pressing 'E' in the appropriate area
Players can launch themselves by pressing 'E' when the indicator to launch shows up
Players can unload themselves by simply moving off the basket
Players can load items by pressing 'Tab' and moving the desired item into the catapult basket
Players can unload items by doing the same thing they'd do to load themselves into the basket
Players can launch items by pressing 'E' on the launch lever
Details about the launch can be inputted
Launch distances can be chosen in the inspector
Launch angle is determined by the rotation of the catapult arm, and therefore by the animation.
Launch velocity is decided by the horizontal launch distance, vertical launch distance, and launch angle
The character controller, when launching, will be disabled from the point of launching to when the player hits the ground

Allowing more items than just cake to be loaded into the catapult
Picking up items (idk if this is already implemented), and return items into your inventory when you unload them.
Allowing you to replace an item in the catapult with another, as opposed to having to first unload one item before loading another
Idk just yet what the plan is for boulders, and whether or not it will be an item or something different, but the catapult can currently only launch the player, Inventory Items, or nothing.
