Primary goal here is better stability in the upstream engine.

This is currently a bit stalled on talks with upstream maintainers.

Currently looking at introducing changes in smaller steps in order to reduce friction/changes required for Docker CE (official) releases... step one of which is to have a release branch cut from moby/moby with cherry-picks/backports happening in moby/moby reviewed/accepted by actual moby maintainers and the community at large.
