IoT Edge on Raspberry Pi "Failed to listen on Azure IoT Edge daemon workload socket" #4721

I am currently trying to run my IoT Edge application in my Raspberry Pi Zero W, but as I finish the installation the service doesn't start properly.

Expected Behavior

The IoT Edge service should start with no erros and connect to the IoT Hub.

Current Behavior

The service doesn't start even after providing the correct connection string.

Steps to Reproduce

Provide a detailed set of steps to reproduce the bug.

  1. Create an IoT Hub resource in your Azure Account and then create an IoT device.
  2. Using a Raspberry Pi (I used the Raspberry Zero W board), install the Raspbian Stretch OS - this is a slightly older version, so you can download the image by going to https://howchoo.com/raspbian/raspbian-stretch-download and install using Raspberry Pi Imager.
  3. Make sure that everything is up-to-date by running: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade.
  4. Install the Docker CE in your Raspberry Pi by following these steps: a. curl -fsSL https://get.docker.com -o get-docker.sh b. sudo sh get-docker.sh c. sudo usermod -aG docker pi d. sudo reboot
  5. Install IoT Edge along in your Raspberry Pi by following these steps: a. curl https://packages.microsoft.com/config/debian/stretch/multiarch/prod.list > ./microsoft-prod.list b. sudo cp ./microsoft-prod.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ c. curl https://packages.microsoft.com/keys/microsoft.asc | gpg --dearmor > microsoft.gpg d. sudo cp ./microsoft.gpg /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/ e. sudo apt-get install iotedge
  6. Edit your IoT Edge configuration file by running sudo nano /etc/iotedge/config.yaml and correctly set your device connection string.
  7. Restart everything by running sudo systemctl restart docker and then sudo systemctl restart iotedge.

Additional Information

Because IoT Edge isn't starting, I manually downloaded edgeAgent and edgeHub images so they already are in my device:

@valmirjr66 Hi, I am really sorry for the late answer:

Currently only armv7 is supported and pi-zero has v6 CPU, so it will not work with the steps above.

Hello, @vipeller. That means that there is absolutly no way to run IoT Edge on Raspberry Pi Zero W? Not even with Edge previous versions? That also means that I would need at least a Raspberry Pi3, right? Since Pi2 was already descontinuated.

@valmirjr66 you can try to compile, but part of the system uses .net core 3.1 which recently did not have support for v6/pi zero. :(
