If it's not doable, then I'm blaming Cinnamon and Metacity for it.

@feren Describe the hack in words and illustrate it with a screenie or two. Oh, I'm also having trouble with Smaragd but I'm confident.

@cinnamoner Making Cinnamon think it's running as GNOME DE (Other issue from a little while ago had the instuctions)

@cinnamoner Edit ~/.profile and add a line: export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME

WARNING: Can cause side-effects!

@feren @bluedxca93 @Elbullazul Okay, seems the close window can only be made wider than the rest in Xfce and Plasma, right?

@cinnamoner yes, it's a one-week vacation, but it's so short!
