Care to quickly take a screenshot in Apps Menu > Accessories > Screenshot, and then upload the screenie here in a comment?
there is no need for a screenshots, I already clearly described the issue, for your convenience I will report the thescription even there:
Ubuntu 17.04, Cinnamon 3.4.0 from official unstable ppa:
If I select show desktop icons I can't see desktop backgound, I see white bg instead. If I disable desktop icons show in cinnamon settings I see my deskto background. If I press CTRL+ALT+UP_ARROW I can see my bg below the workspace panoramic view with cinnamon desktop icons showing enabled and even disabled My theme is Mint-XY, Controls are macOS-sierra-master, Icons are MacBuntu-OS, Windows borders are macOS-sierra-master.
Just tried to change one by one and the problem seems to be in Controls, if I change macOS-sierra-master to some other I have my desktop background back, but selecting macOS-sierra-master again it disappears immediately, but until some days ago I have never had this problem before, even with the same theme configuration. So it's a theme bug or a cinnamon/nemo bug?

@belandsoft if you kill all nemo processes does it still happen?
I think it's related to the new nemo-desktop software
@Elbullazul if I kill nemo-desktop process the background comes up, but obviously in this case I lost all desktop icons. The running or killed status of the classic nemo "old one" process that manages the system folders is irrelevant instead.
@belandsoft what's the complete cinnamon version number?
version 4.0 should fix this
I have white bg issue just discussed here: https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/3953#issuecomment-303181399
