font size irregularities in pdf export #147

Closed bdolor closed 6 years ago

bdolor commented 6 years ago

Description

PDF Larger font size in newly created books

Expected behaviour

new PDF's shouldn't increase font size

Actual behaviour

exporting an existing book pdf is fine. Exporting new books seem to have different font size. In Digital and PDF files, pages are skinnier and text is much larger. This has the potential to vastly increase the number of pages in print-on-demand copies, which will drive up the price.

Steps to reproduce the problem

Export an existing book, check the font size, and page width. Not sure if it's theme specific.

This issue needs to be Edited. The issue does not seem to be related font only to the width of the export. Currently exports on new books have a much narrower width. I have uploaded an example export Item(s) for production and development as a comparison

Original Width (PB 4) British-Columbia-in-a-Global-Context-1520890775.pdf

Narrow Width (PB5) British-Columbia-in-a-Global-Context-1520890604.pdf

@lucwrite - can you confirm that your page width settings is set to 8.5 x 11?

I see this setting on that book:

lucwrite commented 6 years ago

Ok this is weird. Here is gif with settings and resulting export files theme option settings

bdolor commented 6 years ago

what I see in the gif above is after hitting 'save' it switches from US Letter to Digest.

lucwrite commented 6 years ago

Yes - I realize that now. Is it set to default to digest with a new book then?

lucwrite commented 6 years ago

I was able to save again and create export with the desired width

bdolor commented 6 years ago

so, we'll chalk this up as an anomaly?

lucwrite commented 6 years ago

If this happens with each time we create a new book, I guess we can add this to documentation so users don't do. Is that what you mean by anomaly

bdolor commented 6 years ago

when I create a new book, it defaults to US Letter. Because I can't recreate this the problem may be better described as an oddity, or quirk.
