This might be a good item idea.
I can't implement the fire. It's not possible to detect gel. The way it's done in Mel is that there's sensors on the two surfaces that detect your portals, and then after a few seconds the fire is disabled. I'm not sure what sort of water you want, or why you'd want 5 levels.
This might be a good item idea.
I really don´t know.... People likes to suggest lot of things, and i wonder how many of these stuff will be implemented.
Swimmable water placed like goo may be interesting to use.
And maybe the fire could be projected from a texture or something, that gets cleaned off by gel? (Any gel makes sense, since, well, we don't know what propulsion/repulsion gels are made of, by we do know that conversion gel is made of moon rocks, so that would probably put out a fire.)
@TeamSpen210 I think the idea with the water is to have 5 levels within a block. I don't think Cube Type could be used though.
@Flametusk
It's not possible to detect gel.
@TeamSpen210 How about swimmable water placeable like goo, as @Konclan said?
Whoops wrong button
Only the water block is OK
@Konclan The Swimable goo sounds good and it'l function as goo but not kill you. The model can be a stick person swimming.
I also think that water is a good idea, but I recall that it couldn't be included (See this issue).
I've previously suggested making Flamethrowers a separate item (#1073), which would work as fire, too. I also think that emergency intelligence incinerators are in development, though I could be wrong.
The problem is with all of this is how the player would swim underwater. Portal 2 was never given swimming controls, and because of that, it could become extremely difficult to manufacture this.
@MrKrunk Yes it was. Turn on god mode, and then jump in goo.
Honestly, I've never checked to see if this is true, however; goo is meant to kill the player. And if getting out of it was never intentional, why would you be able to use god mode to swim out of it? It only drags you down, and like I said, trying to jump out wouldn't work.
Portal does have swimming controls and they work fine. The real problem is actually in Coop - on contact with water, the player does their third-person death animation. That works fine if you actually die, but if you don't, you're stuck in a weird mode where you continuously play the death animation, and can't really move around.
Maybe water kills the robots, ya know.. because water and electronics don't go well
@TeamSpen210 Maybe electrify the water in Co-op.
In that case it behaves exactly like goo.
@TeamSpen210 For Co-op only. In single player it would still be swimmable.
The water should also have a drainable variant. This would work similar to #584. Additionally, it shouldn't interfere with items like Goo does.
Fire should still be added, it just won't be affected by gel.
Fire is too style specific, would work better as a bottomless pit options. Swimmable water seems to be a liked idea. Start a new issue if you want a fire item or whatever.
The idea with the fire was for it to be able to be put out with cleansing gel, but that's not possible without specially-placed triggers and doesn't have much puzzle use anyway. Making it a goo pit/shredder variant (as suggested in another issue) makes more sense.
Water should also have a drainable variant, I made a fairly nice-looking material for that which we could use.
~Fire Blocks are, well a block that's on fire. Could be used to make the fire pit from Portal 1. Water Blocks are item that have water the water level can be chosen using the sphere, franken, reflection, cube, companion. it'll change the water level. (I want it to be shown on the block itself).~
~These items are for the overgrown style. and for abandoned offices such as the level in PS : Mel in the abandoned offices full of fire.~
A water pit version of the goo pit that is not deadly to players. Electrified (deadly) in COOP due to limitations.
