Randomly corrupted savegames

Sometimes a saved game is corrupt and Fallout 2 is unable to load it. The error message is "Error loading game! Unable to load game." This only happens when the fo2tweaks mod is installed. I use Fallout 2 Restoration Project v2.3.3U8 and also the Party Orders mod v1.4. It occurs whether the Party Orders mod is installed or not. I am using v10 of FO2tweaks.

I have attached two sets of two savegames. The second one is a few seconds after the first one and is corrupted. This is using a default ini file (renamed to .txt to upload to Github).

Try enabling debugging?

The games load with "Enable=1" in "[Debugging]".

I also enabled debug logging. The logs from loading are attached.

The only difference I see between the normal and corrupted saves is this line: [SFALL] ERROR reading data: data\savegame\slot08\sfallgv.sav This file is present in all savegame directories.

what's your sfall version?

It was the one packaged with the Restoration Project v4.1.9.1. But after my first post I have updated to V4.2 to see if it would help. Both versions had the issue.

Anything else you can tell to narrow this down? Specific actions, quests, maps, etc? Would be really helpful to reproduce this.

I have a reproducible case (at least on my install). When I load the attached savegame and perform first aid on the character (press 5 and click on character) and then save the game. The saved game fails to load approximately half of the time. It seems you do need to heal at least some damage for this to occur.

With healing_revision=0 I haven't experienced any corrupted savegames yet.

I didn't remember to set healing_revision=1 before I uploaded. So please remember to enable this setting.

I excluded the following files ./mods/rpu_*.dat ./critter.dat ./master.dat and the ./appearance directory
