Hi Vlad,

I see no problem with the first set of changes (comparison of integers), it's something I should have done long ago but never got around to! The second (removing the function) I'm not so sure. I'm sure there was a reason that bert put it in there but will have to trawl back to find out what else he missed implementing that would have depended on this.
