Latest server-side scheduler blocks anonymous platform access from older clients #194

Reported by Richard Haselgrove on 5 May 37378554 11:33 UTC It appears that SETI@home have upgraded their server-side schedulers to the latest BOINC source tree.

People using the anonymous platform mechanism with production BOINC clients (v5.8.16 and earlier) have not been able to download new work since this change. Disabling anonymous platform re-enables work download.

Commented by anonymous on 28 Oct 37384924 07:33 UTC Hello, I am running the anonymous platform SETI client version 5.13.
I am getting this message in the error logs now since the database server went down this month.

2007-05-18 16:32:02 [SETI@home] Message from server: platform 'i386-pc-os2-emx' not found

I have had no work since the database server was restored. Can anyone at BOINC.SETI fix this problem? I would like to continue to work for SETI if I could. SETI is the only program that has a client for my operating system, OS/2 Warp.

Thanks, Keith

Need change to client? You will make it backward-compatible with existing clients, won't you? Some platforms like Keith's OS/2 Warp won't be able to get a 5.10.x client compiled in a hurry, if at all.

Commented by keithmyers@ca.rr.com on 26 Aug 37387478 12:26 UTC Is the fix compatible with our older 5.49 BOINC client and our 5.13 SETI client? We do not access to our Enhanced SETI programmer anymore.

Hope that I can continue to work for SETI with my existing apps again.

Keith

Commented by boinc@zigoo.net on 4 Apr 37388082 11:33 UTC Recently released Debian etch has BOINC client version 5.4.11. Ubuntu 6.06 LTS has version 5.4.9

Anything that is not backward compatible with these clients is going to prevent users of those stable Linux releases to contribute to BOINC... That really sounds /bad/.

Futher update 07:35 '''UTC''' 23 May 2007

SETI tried, but failed, to install this 'fix' yesterday. Anonymous Platform is still broken. I am re-opening this ticket.

SETI report that they have got the new code to compile. User experience is that anonymous platform is working.

Subject to final check with project, can consider re-closing issue.

Had to detach/reattach SETI project, but the server code is now working and I have finally received new work. HTTP internal server errors have stopped. I concur that the bug can be closed.
