Ophrys apifera var flavescens #13

... I have this morning entered Zoe's record on Mapmate; however, the drop-down menu does not list var. flavescens. I have therefore pro-tem entered it under var. chlorantha with a note in 'comments' that Brendan Sayers has identified it as var. flavescens.

Note that Sell and Murrell recognises forma flavescens (Rost) P.D.Sell in preference to var flavescens.

f. flavescens is in the DDb, (as Ophrys apifera subsp. apifera f. flavescens) but currently has no associated records.

ThePlantList.org treats both the variety and form as synonyms of the species.

Note that the PlantList (and various other online sources) gives the author as Rosbach not Rost - the entry in Sell and Murrell is possibly a mistake, but I've not checked this rigorously. If Rosbach is the correct author then this also needs to be updated in the DDb.

It should be Rosbach. It is correct on page 365 of Sell and Murrell

Whether or not we have it as a var or a forma is largely a matter of taxonomic taste, but probably better to stick with S & M if it is not in Stace (I would personally go with forma anyway).
