Description: You cannot selectively replace the Deathwing Terminator Squad Sergeant weapons with the Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield upgrade. "Any model may replace all of its weapons with:", and giving the squad a TH&SS seems to replace a standard terminators gear.

Itsacon commented 8 years ago

I don't really see what you mean by `seems to replace a standard terminators gear'. The sergeant isn't a seperate entry in the unit (it's 5 terminators including sergeant). Since the upgrade cost is the same for a normal terminator and the sergeant, it doesn't need to be specified who gets it. If you buy the upgrade three times, it's up to you if you give it to 2 termies and the sergeant, or to 3 termies.

Making the sergeant a seperate entry would only complicate matters, as he has the same wargear options as the rest of the terminators, so it would just be a replication of the same options screen.

Okay it comes down this, if you give the squad a TH&SS it replaces a normal terminators gear and you end up with 3 power fist, 4 storm bolters plus the power sword the sergeant carries. Now point wise it doesn't make a bit of difference who gets the TH&SS, but I would like the roster to actually reflect which model has the upgrade. TH&SS helps keep the sergeant when a challenge is issued. "View Roster" has a power sword in the unit's war gear, if the sergeant's gear is replaced there is no power sword in the unit.

Itsacon commented 8 years ago

You did notice that if you add 5 TH/SS, the power fist is also still there? (and the storm bolter) The power sword and power fist profiles are hard-linked to the DWTS, they'll always show up, regardless of the wargear selected.

The only way to hide those profiles is to make the sergeant a seperate entry in the unit. But if we do that, we also need to make the heavy weapon terminators a seperate entry, otherwise you can't specify if a chainfist is carried by a normal trooper or by a heavy weapon trooper.

If you want to see how that looks, have a look at the Terminator Squad in the Grey Knights data file. I know I'd rather not replicate that maze of options when it doesn't add anything aside from a cosmetic change.

If you don't want to show the power sword and fist with the unit, select `Include profiles->summary' in battle scribe when viewing the roster. That groups all weapon profiles at the end, and doesn't show them with the unit.

I have no idea how these data files work or how much work has gone into them. Was hopping that it could be easily modified for the sake of clarity but that is not case. That is mostly likely going to bug me for some time to come, well oh.

Like I said, if you change the way Battlescribe shows the roster, it won't be as confusing. The power fist and power sword are not listed as wargear (only Terminator armour is). It's just that the entry tells battlescribe: "Show the profiles for power fists, power swords and stormbolters".

Right now, your BS is set up to show those with the unit (possibly repeating them if you have more than one unit with power fists). If you set Include profiles? to Summary, it'll group them at the end of the roster, and remove duplicates.

I think that'll solve your problem.

(Also, I'm serious, have a look at the Grey Knights Terminator entry in Battlescribe. It'll make you very happy how clean the DA codex is :-) )
