Description: New profile for Iron Priest is missing. Profile is in new codex, or white dwarf 107. Please do not get rid of current Iron priest profile though. White dwarf 107 states that both can be used legally. Major difference is new one is HQ, old is elite, + a few other changes. Again, please do not remove old profile as both are usable!

Cheers

The new codex doesn't say anywhere that they are both usable. There is text, in White Dwarf, saying that they are, but Codex (CotW) trumps White Dwarf, so unless they put it in a FAQ or errata, only the new Iron Priest should be available.

cartag commented 8 years ago

The codex doesn't, but WD 107 does explicitly.

SuperPranx commented 8 years ago

If a player picks up the books in a few months he won't have any direct access to this info. If he picks up the new digital version of the codex he won't even know that the IP was an Elite choice at a certain point in time. The new digital version is supposed to contain all the rules from the Codex, CoF supplement and CotW and it doesn't contain an Elite choice IP, as far as I'm aware.

I wouldn't go into it any further until we get some sort of errata or FAQ update from GW and I'm not qualified to say that it is either right or wrong to include both choices. All I'm saying is how I, personally, see it.

If I am not mistaken the Warzone: Fenris dataslate for the Iron Priest specifically mentions that it replaces the one in the codex. Meaning you have Warzone: Fenris and the Codex: Space Wolves Wulfen Edition stating that the Iron Priest is only usable as a HQ choice now.

I think past precedence would need to be discussed, if we take the Codices and Supplements to be more credible than WD we should remove the elite profile. If WD has taken to be more credible than the Codices in the past, it should stay.

Glaidr commented 8 years ago

Gnofry: Ive seen both, and it dose not explicitly say that the old iron priest is not usable.

SuperPranx: By that logic, no one should be able to use ANY of the data slates from white dwarfs, even though that's the only place you can find some of them. Eg Gerantus the forgotten Knight was not in the updated Knights book, yet i have the white dwarf with his rules.

GW is legendarily bad for writing confusing rules. i believe it should be included for people who wish to use the rule as intended if they want. If you dont want to use the rule, dont add the iron priest?

This is my first time posting on github, so i hope the above picture works, but if it dose not, here is the image URL from the white dwarf.

That's a fair point. I propose we add the new Iron Priest without modifying the old one and add an additional 'rule' in both their entries stating why they both exist as choices in the catalog. This would help anyone looking at the data file in the future and would serve to ensure that one of the entries isn't suddenly removed.

What are your opinions on this approach?

Glaidr commented 8 years ago

I find this acceptable!! covers all bases

hisop commented 8 years ago

Agreed, since GW still sell the old codex on the site it needs to be usable. as an elite.

There will be a release pushed at a later time, typically weekly.
