Bluetooth USB dongle compatibility? #116

Hi.

I'm using a PCM2704 USB DAC, Volumio for RaspberryPi works great with it, but I can't get this project to work. After installing the software and rebooting, and having plugged in a generic usb bluetooth dongle to my RPi 1, my TV doesn't seem to find it as bluetooth speaker. The dongle is detected in dmesg as it shows off the bluetooth modules are loaded.

Does this work with USB dongles or is it just compatible with the onboard bt in pi3 or zero? Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance.

There shouldn’t be any difference among Bluetooth devices so long as the rpi recognizes it. The one issue I am aware of is that if you have more than one Bluetooth dongle connected or if it uses an external dongle and disables the built in.
