Hackathon: GR10: Art Bounty #1

Closed Tritium-VLK closed 3 years ago

Tritium-VLK commented 3 years ago

Our message to the creative world

Only a few years ago, blockchain was all the rage, in finance, in discussing politics, rethinking institutions and in art. It was the utopian vision and the villain, the solution and the main problem, sliding on the Gartner Hype cycle of technology. This bounty is about what happens after disillusionment, with the tool sets at hand and with resources in society, outside the confines of the financial market. How can principles of decentralization offer new outcomes, after the promise and the failure of blockchain? What are the crypto lessons learned in order to walk towards futures more people are excited to encounter? Does it offer alternative models for art production and distribution?
Artists, designers, tinkerers and creative technologists are invited to explore Decentralised Finance and the Blockchain in what they brought to the world and what they can put forward towards the future, for art as well as for tech, as disruptive, productive and transformative models.

Thematic areas to influence your work:

The Public Domain, Solidarity Networks, Decentralised Finance, Collective Good, Consensus Mechanisms, Alternative Economies, Decentralised Governance, Decentralised Futures, Future of Work, Digital Art Assets, Technologies of Archiving, Cryptomining, Datamining and Carbon Footprints, Proof of (Art) Work, Collaborative Attribution

Submissions are not required to focus on finance and the (art) market, but are invited to reflect on replacing the current system of centralised finance, governance and decision making with the sorts of decentralised concepts that have been built in the DeFi space, as well as in other open source initiatives. You are welcome to explore matters such as the history of the open source movement in relation to new forms of centralization; how can markets be reconfigured to form mutual growth, instead of knowledge asymmetry and competition through secrecy, copyrights and patents; creative uses of distributed ledger technologies; thinking beyond current implementations of technologies into more energy efficient decentralization mechanisms, thinking beyond current models of the art market etc. Inquiries include, but are not bound to: speculative concepts, critical reflections, visionary tools, multimedia experiences, timestamp art, microgrant ecosystems, archival practices and wherever your imagination takes you in linking creative work in thinking decentralised futures.

Submission:

Submissions are due by End of Day on July 7th You should submit evidence of your work, which you can interpret as creative as the affordances of the tools you use allow you. It can be both ephemeral as an experience, sensory, time based, or material as code or media artifact.

Gitcoin submissions must be submitted on github, and payments will be made over the Ethereum Blockchain. You will need an Etherium wallet address for payment when you submit, and a Github which should include all relevant files in it. You're Repository (repo) should also include a README.md or a README.pdf that describes the structure of what has been submitted and explains what should be judged. You can also include any context you would like the judges to consider, as well as information about costs you incurred creating your (art) work.

We understand that Github is a technical tool for geeks to share their work, and that many artists have not yet interacted with the blockchain. We will be running 1-3 workshops on how to setup an Ethereum wallet and get up and running on Github and submit to Gitcoin towards the end of the hack-a-thon. The dates and times of these events will be posted here once they are determined. We also have a very active community who are happy to help people trying to understand how to use our tools. You can connect with us on Our Discord

Note that any art that can fit well into an NFT may be considered by Badger for future NFT's. In the event that we would like to use your art for an NFT, we will contact you and work with you to publish it, feature you as an artist, and insure that you receive the portion of every sale. Badger may use your submitted works in articles we are writing and/or tweet about them, but we will ALWAYS credit you for your work, and will help anyone looking to work with you connect. That being said, we welcome art that doesn't fit well into an NFT context as well.

Gitcoin is focused on supporting, exploring and creating self-directed careers through creating public goods, opensource software, and creative commons art. Therefore all submissions to this bounty will only be accepted if they include include an Creative Commons License that allows anyone to use/expand upon your work as long as they credit you.

If your submission does not include such a license, we will contact you to help you add one. If said license is not added within 72 hours after said request, the submission will be excluded from consideration. Badger and Gitcoin support open-source as an ethos of co-creation in which we strive to find ways of forming creative ecosystems based on sharing and network effects of amplified community support, such as the Gitcoin funding model. _

Please see this video for help with setting up a Metamask wallet, a Github account and submitting your work on Gitcoin: We have included this video to explain how to submit your work and get setup for payment when you are finished: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT6PxRqwbJs

Bounty:

Upto 5000 USD in BADGER governance tokens will be awarded at the judges discretion. The following guidelines are a recommendation, but we invite the judges to use another structure if they deem it better suited to honor the submitted works.

Judges:

Judge Panel should be at least 3 people with 50% or more of them coming from arts and culture outside crypto. From Badger: @Tritium-VLK , @kilogold, @hmmmason <-- all seem to have interest in supporting the arts. From arts and culture: We have invited Nathan Schneider and Darija Medić, blockchain aware academics from the fields of Media and the Arts to co-create and judge an Art Bounty worth up to $5,000 in Badger. They have invited Digital Artist Uroš Krčadinac to join them.

My project is to use disruptive-guerilla marketing tactics to raise awareness of DeFi crypto options outside the legacy financial institutions. We would print vinyl die-cut OR magnets (less permanent) to stick on or near financial institutions ATMs. This would target tech savvy spenders & potential users to Badger Dao who may be already be curious to alternative finance & DeFi. The already eye catching Badger logo with the QR code would draw users to click and open the QR link. The first thing the user sees... I’m a 15+ year video professional and produced an explainer and can’t even get an answer on who the bounty was awarded to. 🤷‍♂️ I can’t see this community thriving working as it does. Wish it was different.

Independent judges where picking the winners probably for the creativity or something else. Many people participated many haven't won. There will be more bounties.

Danny-Ji commented 3 years ago

Yes @collipixels they try to keep it quiet. I think they award themselves as winner 😅 . I don't believe in any type of bounty other than of Kevin's . Now I am sure. So no more trusting and working in other bounties except of Kevin. Good luck everyone and good night.
