Gitcoin Grants Round 10 Badger Builder Honey Pot #2

Closed Tritium-VLK closed 3 years ago

Tritium-VLK commented 3 years ago

Description

The explosive growth of the Badger DAO over the last 6 months has led to a number of challenges and opportunities. As a major supporter, Badger DAO recognises how Gitcoin enables and encourages the future of Open Source. We have been using Bitcoin more and more to find people to work with, and are looking to explore ways to use this ecosystem to incubate projects that support our mission of bringing Bitcoin to DeFi.

Badgers never hide; we like to build in the open with our community. More community, more engagement, and more building the products our users and participants love. We’re always in search of new Badger Builders to grow the protocol, the ecosystem, and help Badger DAO bring BTC to DeFi.

Gitcoin nestles in comfortably with the Badger Ecosystem Grants and the Badger Annexe, the DAO’s onboarding flow that turns users into champions, community members into contributing creators, and startups into integrated products. Badger continues to support promising hack-a-thon and winners and bounty hunters through Gitcoin grants matching. We also have the Badger Annex which is an incubation engine setup to take the best ideas and launch them on a path to rapid growth, which we are hoping to populate with promising ideas and brilliant teams.

The possibilities with Badger are endless. You can take this opportunity to see and be seen in DeFi.

Bounty

A total of upto $25,000 USD equivalent(on date of payout) in badger will be awarded on the following schedule: First Place: 10,000 Second Place: 5,000 Third Place: 3000 Fourth Place: 2000 Fifth Place: 1000

The remaining $4000 in badger will be paid out as follows: $500 in Badger for up to 8 additional submissions deemed serious and somehow noteworthy.

The First and Second and Third place bounties will not be paid out unless projects of sufficient merit are submitted. In our mind First/second place projects should involve more than 40 hours of senior dev work, and be novel and working.

Challenge Description

Hackers should focus on creating projects that accelerate Bitcoin usage across blockchains and anything that would make DeFi more accessible, engaging, and fun! We believe that lower gas prices and the recent release of more advanced AMM tools by Uniswap and Balancer in the last month creates a number of opportunities to do cool new stuff that was not really possible before in DeFi. We have also recently released ibBTC which is a multi-chain interest bearing bitcoin taking interest from underlying badger farming posistion. ibBTC currently exists on Mainnet and Polygon chains. We will pay special attention to interesting applications that extend the compostability of ibBTC.

A few areas to explore could be:

Part of what makes Crypto special is exploring your own ideas for how to use protocols, so feel free to build and submit anything Bitcoin in DeFi, Badger, or DIGG, or DAO/Governance related.

Here are some specific things our community and team has mentioned it would be cool to see.

Submission Requirements:

Judges:

The Badger Council and our previous Hack-a-thon Winners @kilogold and @GalloDaSballo + @mrrpo

Here are the criteria by which your work will be judged:

In the end we see this as a way to meet great engineers. Our winners tend to be senior engineers, who are self driven and can hammer out a novel MVP, or solve a problem we have in a few weeks. Code Quality and basic documentation is important. We will reject any submission that is not running and we can not build.

Note when evaluating Smart Contracts:

Compared side by side, we will prefer code that uses proven and safe methods for handling peoples money over code that shows novel and new ways of doing something that safe methods already well handle. Note that anything that would hold a lot of money, should demonstrate code that is safe to hold a lot of money.

Winner Announcement Date:

Winners to be announced within 2 weeks after the hack-a-thon ends.

It's all about connection!

Badger Community: Feel free to paste other ideas for our hack-a-thon contestants in comments. Hack-a-thon Contestants:. You can interface with our DAO and our community, and perhaps get some questions answered on our Discord. Also check out comments in the Github Issue

Check out our other Bounties

Badger is sponsoring a wide veriety of bounties that are both more and less specific than this one. Go check them out!

Perhaps add to list of things to see: Create a non-ETH bitcoin yielding vault that could be used to back ibBTC alongside the curve and yearn: for example the synthetic bitcoin on thorchain: thor.btc or BPRO on Root Stock's Sovryn.

Let's add STX stacks to the list next to RSK and THOR.

Build a dynamic dashboard that displays various centralized and decentralized Bitcoin yield opportunities. Will base off of existing example static spreadsheet. 3) agin-dropdisco has started work.

Decentralized protocol for automated token exchange with adjustable fees. We will deploy our AMM to Rinkeby <> Matic Testnet to make it easier for user to test how to create pair, pool, staking, claiming rewards and more.
