Not receiving calls #80

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. set up sip acct and sipsorcery
2. set up gvoice and added my sip number as a new phone
3. attempted to 'verify' the phone and did not receive the call on my nexus
one, but did notice call activity in the sipsorcery terminal

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
hoping to receive call, nothing happened

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
vista, sipdroid

Please provide any additional information below.

I have been following the 'how-to' located at
http://gurnted.wordpress.com/guides/updated-guide-from-xda/

which involves a step with pbx accts that I don't see on this page. is the pbx
portion not necessary?

I am using Sipdroid as my sip client on my nexus one, do I have to put some
specific settings in there as well? If so, which settings and what do I enter?

Thanks a bunch, I am excited to get this thing happening.

Where is your SIP account hosted? Can you forward incoming calls to a regular
POTS line? Instead of getting hung up on trying to verify the line using a pure
SIP path, how about configuring your SIP line to forward all calls to a
standard phone line? Then, as soon as you verify the line, delete the forward
so you can get back to the main point here. We just had someone else go through
the Nexus One not ringing within the last couple of days. I'm going to say
issue 78 but will double check it.

Correction. Issue 76.

Oh, and the site you're following was not setup by us. It is simply a slightly
different approach to the same problem we are addressing here, and they pointed
to the wiki here for some supplemental information. I don't understand the
value of using PBXes, but other people certainly do, so I don't doubt that
there is.

Easter,

I read through issue 76 and I think I am more confused. I am using Sipgate, I
have configured two phones (VOIP for me and cellphone/landline for me). In
Sipsorcery I only have one registration though and that may be an issue? I
didn't quite get the two accounts thing. I also think an issue is that I may
not have the sipdroid settings right, but I need to resolve the two accounts
things first. should my sipdroid server setting be 'sipsorcery.com'???

Again, I think I am more confused but may be on the cusp....

Thanks so much for your help.

Hey Paul,

Don't worry about the whole "two sipgate clients" thing for now, I just learned
today it is no longer required. In SIP Sorcery, you should have one SIP
Provider shown in the top list and one SIP Provider Registration shown at the
bottom. When you enter a Register Contact, enter it as your SIP Sorcery
username@sip1.sipsorcery.com

When you register siprdoid, login as your username with a domain of
sipsorcery.com and if you can configure a proxy server, enter
sip1.sipsorcery.com.

Don't worry. We'll be extra patient if you will :)

Paul did you ever get this working?

Original comment by easter...@gmail.com on 8 Feb 2011 at 2:04

No, I didn't. The last posts I made (issues 100 and 104) have all just
died.

I am running a nexus one, have an IPKALL acct. etc. as detailed but have
never been able to get the whole package running.

I would love to continue if there is someone who might lend me their
expertise, although the new gingerbread android os update seems to have SIP
calling built in (if ATT allows), I don't know if that solves my whole hope,
which is to possibly ditch the carrier all together.

Thanks for the communication,

Paul

Okay, I'm sorry it hasn't worked out for you. I would like to work with you to
get setup. If Gingerbread now has native SIP dialing, that may only mean you
don't need to download a SIP client like sipdroid anymore. If that's the case,
you still need to have a VoIP service like SIP Sorcery. Furthermore, I just
read over this blog entry and it looks like the native SIP client is too
limited to use with custom services.

http://www.onsip.com/blog/leo/2011/01/05/our-evaluation-of-android-gingerbreads-
native-sip-calling-with-the-nexus-s

This appears to mean that you won't be able to use it with SIP Sorcery. Let me
know what you currently have installed and configured. I would like to get you
going using sipdroid, IPKall, SIP Sorcery and nothing else. Please check to
make sure you can still log into your SIP Sorcery account.

Let me know.

I would love to give it another shot as this is one of the reasons I went
with the NexusOne.

I have the Sipdroid client installed on the device (although I am not sure
what the settings should be as I have changed them so much.) I have a
SipSorcery Account, which I just logged into successfully. I just renewed
my IPKall account (used my sipsorcery login as my sip number and
sipsorcery.com as the host.) I also have GVoice but if we can do this
without it, that is fine with me.

I am rather new to the VOIP/SIP thing so although I am by no means an idiot,
I would request that you assume very little.

Thank you very much for your help. I would be ecstatic if this got off the
ground for me.

Paul, I understand if you feel abandoned here. Did you ever get going over the
last year? You may email me directly using my nick @ gmail if you wish to
troubleshoot it. I feel terrible that I never got you going.

Hi Nick, thank you for your reply. I always wanted to get this thing working
but it never took off. I have since moved from the N1 to the Samsung S2
Skyrocket because my N1 became gravity challenged and the digitizer went belly
up. Unfortunately, I don't know if if still have active SIP accounts etc... so
we may have to start at the beginning if you are willing.

Thanks much,

Paul

Sorry for the confusion, "my nick" is old Internet-speak for nickname. I was
giving you my (obfuscated) email address from spammers in case you wanted to
contact me directly. First off, could you please make sure your login at SIP
Sorcery still works? If so, we should be able to do this. As an aside, I'm
currently facing the _rnr_key issue and cannot place any calls via this method
at this time. I will work with you to get through the setup, but it's not even
working for me right now.
