Thanks Leigh, that looks really well thought through. I'm happy to follow this - have you got anywhere checking the existing datasets? I'm happy to divvy up the workload.
I've already started to take a look through and have been tinkering with a tool to help make that easier. But if you could each check over your own datasets, that would be a help.
Ben has transferred his datasets to me so I can tidy them up. Happy to transfer them on, I'll file a separate issue for that.
Waiting for Socrata to confirm about renaming/rearranging custom fields.
I've applied these changes, except for the renaming and re-ordering: Socrata tell me that this isn't possible. If we wanted to do this, we'd have to delete and recreate the fields and add the metadata again.
While I'd like to make those changes, I'm not sure that's worthwhile, so am closing. If anyone disagrees then let me know
I've written a short guide to completing dataset metadata on the catalog. I'd welcome feedback from everyone:

I also want to tidy up the custom fields we're using and ensure we're all being consistent. I'd like to propose some changes to the current configuration:
Author Name
-- remove it as its already covered by the name of the user publishing the dataset, and the "Data Provided By" field for 3rd party datasetsPublication Date
-- remove it as I think its already covered by the created at/updated at metadata which is on every dataset. Or are there scenarios I'm overlooking?Additional Licence Information
-- rename this to "Licence Name". I've pinged Socrata to check if this is possibleAdditional Attribution Statement
-- rename this to just "Attribution Statement". (Again, assuming this is possible)Re-user Guidelines
-- to point to any additional re-use guidance, e.g. pointing to Google's re-use guidelinesODI Certificate
-- URL to an ODI certificate for the dataset (if it has one)I've also made a couple of other changes, e.g. adding "Never" to update frequency and adding a list of all of the standard open data licences and their URLs.
This will need some tweaks to existing dataset metadata, but nothing major.
