@tmyersdn remarks he did not immediately realize that Bauble uses some labels to link to queries, because these do not look like buttons. @RoDuth, who's a long-time Bauble user, says he got used to it and he does not see it as an issue.
Since most of the code is already in place, I thought it would not hurt if we changed the event-box background to a slightly lighter tint. I'm not sure what would happen if a user configured their own colour scheme, maybe this lighter tint should not be hard coded but configurable, but the question could be raised also regarding the blue for the label foreground.
I also wonder whether a thin border would help, maybe not in all cases but at least at the initial 'home' screen.
