Incorrect SMS unread count

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Receive a SMS
2. Read it using Airdroid (unsure if this is the actual cause)
3. Open it in Hangouts (default SMS app on Nexus 5) and ensure it's marked as 
read

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Unread count for SMS on lockscreen should be 0 / not shown, but is instead 1.

What version of the product are you using?
1.5

Which device and Android version are you experiencing this issue on?
Nexus 5, Android 4.4.

Are you using a custom launcher or ROM? If so, which one? Note that custom
launchers and ROMs are not supported.
Not using a custom launcher.

Please provide any additional information below.
I tried clearing app data for DashClock, but the unread count still reads 1.

I'm getting the same message on Nexus 5.  Always shows "1 Unread" SMS even when 
all have been read/deleted.

I'm having the exact same issue, with 2 unread messages always present.
