Night Mode in daydream no longer working

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Screen should be dimmed when Night Mode is selected, but recently when my 
tablet is in daydream, the display has been remaining at the same brightness as 
it would without Night Mode.

What version of the product are you using?
1.6

Which device and Android version are you experiencing this issue on?
Nexus 7 running stock Android 4.4.2

Are you using a custom launcher or ROM? If so, which one? Note that custom 
launchers and ROMs are not supported.
Nova launcher

Please provide any additional information below.
This appears to have become an issue after one of the more recent updates, but 
because I'm not sure when it started, Night Mode may have stopped working after 
updating to KitKat.
