Can make temporarily a specific folder in ~ to ease downloading images one by one. Otherwise can check that no files with the provided file extension exist in ~, then can save them temporarily in ~ and easily select them by file extension.

An alternative could be to make a single file archive.

It seems that they finally implemented this feature, even if there is a video in the message. Note that I also verified that it works without a video being part of the message.
