Settings > Preferences > Message editor > Markdown formatting seems to be a good start but not perfect as editing Markdown formatted message sent by the Android app, shows a Markdown rendered message, hence it breaks the Markdown formatting.

What is Settings > Labs > Enable rich text editor about?

Side note: Settings > Labs > Enable LaTeX mathematics exists.

Otherwise I checked all other settings.
