Test roof for RF interference #38

Closed edaniszewski closed 10 years ago

edaniszewski commented 10 years ago

Once we have the plans and scope out good locations, get access to the roof and test for general RF noise, publish results to wiki

edaniszewski commented 10 years ago

Moving to M3. Need scheduled roof access and more defined plan on site location or potential site locations. Related: #40

edaniszewski commented 10 years ago

The results of this should be posted to the wiki page. When this is done, the issue can be closed.

theDarkLard commented 10 years ago

@edaniszewski what is the name of the readout file for the data we recorded?

edaniszewski commented 10 years ago

@theDarkLard it should be rooftest or rooftest1 and rooftest2

edaniszewski commented 10 years ago

Added pictures and video to the wiki page. Still needs data from tests and additional pictures and observations.

theDarkLard commented 10 years ago

rooftest data is up on the wiki

hcrowl commented 10 years ago

Need to re-test when amplifier is powered.

acencini commented 10 years ago

71 this might be easiest with a laptop, so if we can get the dongle with faux rotator going via centos on @vpascow's laptop, that might be easiest

acencini commented 10 years ago

moving to m8

wbuchanan28 commented 10 years ago

Will we have all the parts to test this tomorrow? We'll be up on the roof anyway. @theDarkLard can you verify that we have everything we need on the "dongle back-end" side of things?

theDarkLard commented 10 years ago

Yeah everything is lubed up and ready to go

sweet. @hcrowl or @acencini do you imagine we'll have enough time to talk with the electricians as well as testing RF interference?

theDarkLard commented 10 years ago

We can probably get two teams going if this is a goal for tomorrow. Divide and conquer.

It is worth testing this if we have time tomorrow. I suspect that a lot of this will just be waiting around for the electrician to run our wires and waterproof everything up. So, there should be some down time. @vpascow, will you have your laptop so we don't have to lug the rest of the stuff up to the roof?

acencini commented 10 years ago

we located scary things but there are also other scary things that need to be unscaried before we can confirm

edaniszewski commented 10 years ago

The noise we saw looks to be just because the dongle was chilly. I don't know if that means we tested for RF interference successfully or not, but if confirming that the noise we saw was not real noise is all that was left for this issue, then I guess its good to close..

hcrowl commented 10 years ago

Is this doable now with our warmer weather?

Is it worth lugging the desktop computer up on to the roof so that we are using the same system that we're planning on using eventually? (maybe not, but it's worth considering)

acencini commented 10 years ago

it is going to be nice today and tomorrow. might be a good time to test the dongle.

edaniszewski commented 10 years ago

Should this be an issue anymore, since we already have everything mounted?

wbuchanan28 commented 10 years ago

This is definitely no longer an issue. Closing
