JSON file null NullPointer Exception thrown

Description

When editing the json file and inserting a null as patient, nullpointer exception thrown.

Expected

Application starts with a blank slate

Actual

Application does not start.

Steps to Reproduce

1. insert null at the end

2. Null Pointer Exception thrown
