So far it seems that Amazon does not offer an API:

There are some hacks mentioned in the thread that basically sniff out the
protocol.
A python library is here:

I will not work on this right now, because I work on the 2.0 user interface,
but if someone picks it up, lets include it and see what happens. Otherwise, I
would expect Amazon to add it to their library at some point.
