Very slow response time #94

What steps will reproduce the problem?
I installed the script according to the installation guide.
Starting the script takes up to 10 seconds (sometimes faster).
The MythTV installation is on the same machine.
After having configured MythBox correctly (Test settings said, everything
was ok), it takes about 2-5 Minutes until it shows all fanart for my
recordings (5-8, not dozens). Then, klicking around or opening a different
navigation item takes up to minutes. There's no reaction at all (except
that keystroke sound). After some time, the selected item is shown (e.g.
the settings tab)... for the settings tab then it could take another 1-2
minutes until all settings are displayed (the settings headlines are showed
from the beginning but not the values).
Sometimes it's even impossible to return to the XBMC main menu.
I have to kill XBMC completely then.
The tool is unusuable then.
After a complete and fresh installation including the deletion of the old
settings, it's quick again - at least as long as it's not completely
configured.
The log shows some warnings from time to time regarding the delays... I
don't know, what's the problem. Everything else works nicely on my machine
- except mythbox.
By the way - mythbox lost all fanart for my recordings everytime when
restarted... it then shows empty rectangles and starts to download other
stuff again and again... is this something different or related?

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
see above... just wanna use it :-)

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Mythbuntu 9.10 64bits, MythTV 0.22, MythBox SVN 1798, Athlon II X2 235e,
2*2,7 GHz, 2GB RAM, Radeon HD 4200

Please provide any additional information below.
I attached a xbmc.log file

Can you try the latest version from the hg repo? Run this in your
~/.xbmc/scripts
directory (assuming you have mercurial installed -- sudo apt-get install
mercurial)

hg clone https://mythbox.googlecode.com/hg/ mythbox

Make sure mythbox debug is set to Off (MythBox->Settings->Advanced->Debug
Logging)
and see if still have perf problems.

If you do, please turn debug back on and attach a fresh log.

Got the latest version and retried. Still the same - at least mostly.
At least I saw some covers but not always.
When starting mythbox and waiting until all covers are loaded (may take some
time) it
seems to work better (see xbmc.log.1).
If I directly try to switch to a different functionality (e.g. settings) it's
really
bad (see xbmc.log.3).
After a fresh start, it takes really long until the covers are loaded (30-60
secs I
guess) but then they pop up within 1-5 seconds - all of them... some timeout
issue?

Hope that helps. Thanks

All loading of fanart takes place in the background. The first time that the
fanart is
requested, it can take a while but after that, it is cached locally. There is
nothing
you can do about the initial time it takes even though it may be quite lengthy.

In your third log file, the performance seems to degrade significantly (27 secs
to get
a response from the mythbackend). Try running dstat in a window while running
XBMC.
It may just be that your machine does not have enought memory and is starting
to swap
a bit.

I found I had a similar issue until I added the hostname of the mythtv machine
in /etc/hosts. Being that it's on the same machine you might try to configure
mythbox to connect to the network address rather than loopback.
