Problem with special charachters in usernames on os x #93

hi ...
i have a username in a gitlog of köstlin (with a german umlaut).
i added corresponding png-files to render an icon.
but the string that readdir in osx (hfs) delivers is something different 
(something with composed / decomposed utf-8).

there i convert the encoding of the direntries with corefoundation calls.

perhaps as an alternative email-addressed could be used instead of usernames (i 
am not sure, if strange characters are allowed in email addresses nowadays).
