"Set as wallpaper" doesn't work with GNOME Shell #202

For GNOME Shell, apparently something else is necessary to "Edit > Set as wallpaper" the currently displayed image, because this menu is without effect but still works for basic window managers such as Openbox.

This doesn't work with GTK2 and xfce, and is completely ifdeffed out for GTK3. If there are easier ways to set the wallpaper, maybe this should be removed from the code.

Can you be a bit more specific? I tested on fvwm and it works well (GTK2 compiled)

What happens if you choose that option? What does xfce different to other window managers?

Yes, it certainly works with fvwm. But not with compiz or Xfwm4. I also recall that years ago it was working on my system - and I have always used just straight Xubuntu. Something has changed somewhere...

It will be beyond my competence to discover where the problem lies. As the relevant code is ifdeffed out for GTK3, I will just do the same for the menu item, until the problem gets fixed.

The 'Set as wallpaper' option does not work in many user cases. For example when the wallpaper is set with Feh image viewer, or with Nitrogen wallpaper manager. This and the fact that the wallpaper functionality in Geeqie can not be disabled in the application settings is confusing to users and prevent the application from being included as a preinstalled image viewer in distributions.
