Identification of work #2607

I am currently working on an unidentified prayer work, which is a prayer to God that incorporates biblical names and the names of Ethiopian saints. I have been unable to identify the work. I have attempted to identify the work by using relevant keywords from the text, but I did not find any section or title. Additionally, the beginning and ending of the manuscript are missing. The remaining text comprises 62 leaves. Below, I have included the incipit that begins the work and the explicit that concludes it. Beginning of the text:

Ending of the text:

If the beginning of the manuscript is missing, it is then not incipit but the beginning of the text (in the same way, the explitic here is the end of the available text, the proper end seems to be missing). The passage you quote looks like a prayer, but are you sure that the rest 60 fols contain a prayer like this? (the end does not look like a prayer, it may be also a hagiographic narrative). Can the text be somehow made available, to understad what is it about?

Folio 54rb I found the text that says Will it be the title of the work? Do we have a prayer called ጸሎተ: ኄራን?

DenisNosnitsin1970 commented 1 month ago

No, it is not. It is the conclusion of the text, not title.

Do we have a prayer called

We do not have it. See above: "Can the text be somehow made available, to understad what is it about?" Some more text text after the incipit (several pages) are needed, to see what it might be.

Yes, here it is.

Ok, from what I see, it appears to be a prayer indeed, which leans upon all saints and martyrs, probably following their order in Gadla Sama'etat or Synaxarion. Each passage ends with the words "ወኵሉ፡ ማኅበራኒሆሙ።" (and so on many foilos, unless this is not one single work is contained in this passage). The text can be supplied a title smth like "Prayer in the Name of All Saints and Martyrs". It is difficult to say if it is in Bm or not, rather it is not. The manuscript is not recent, and the text is certainly not very common. From what I see, only names of the foreign saints are mentioned, less known in the later period. You can ask Dorothea if she knows smth like this from the literary surrounding of the early Syxanarion. In BM there is a record "LIT3838Prayer", but it seems to be a different work. You can ask around a little bit and see in a few catalogues, probably you will need an ID at the end.

Ok, thank you very much. Your assistance is greatly appreciated, and I will work on it accordingly. Yes of course, I am waiting for comments of others on this issue.

I am not a specialist in prayers or hagiographic literature. I did not find a comparable text. I would recommend to create a new ID as Denis has suggested.

@thea-m was not tagged here; she is on her leave though so probably has no time to check. I would suggest a new work ID, it is always easier to merge than to disambiguate later.

I do not know this work and agree that a new ID would make sense. At a first glance, it is not (only) dependent on the early synaxarion, but includes more saints
