Note blocks cannot be activated by powering adjacent blocks.
None of the 6 buttons to the left activate the note blocks.
When a note block is powered directly by a redstone repeater (orange button), it doesn't activate when the repeater powers on, only when it powers off.
Note blocks only activate properly when powered directly (green buttons).
Note blocks don't activate even if given a block update (ex. toggling a fence gate next to the block) while the adjacent block is powered.
Redstone torches only activate note blocks above themselves, not to the side.
Red:
No activation when torches are placed
No activation when torches turn back on after buttons deactivate
Orange:
Activation when torch turns back on after button deactivates
Activation when torch is placed for the first time
No activation when the torch is broken and placed again, unless a special "ritual" is performed:
This "ritual" also works with torches placed on the floor, not just on the side of the solid block.
You can also power the block, remove the torch while it's off, then unpower the block. After this, placing the torch will activate the note block.
These issues are not solved by giving the note block a block update.
