Target blocks in vanilla MC are useful because they are solid blocks that redirect dust into themselves. It's a very simple but extremely useful property for redstone contraptions. BTA at the moment doesn't have a block like this.
Describe the solution you'd like and alternatives you've considered
I was thinking of giving redstone dust to route itself into adjacent redstone ore blocks.
+ I think it's intuitive for redstone ore blocks to interact with redstone dust in some way
+ Provides an incentive for people to make golden pickaxes and collect ore blocks for more than just decoration
− People might find the dust not powering when the ore is activated by for example stepping on it counter-intuitive
The behaviour could also be given to the quartz block - quartz is already related to redstone through the lamp recipe. Lamps don't redirect dust into themselves, though.
If not quartz, maybe a new block could be added with this mechanic, either a copy of the vanilla target block, or a brand new block.
Name could be something like Redstone Socket/Redstone Node/Redstone Receiver/Redstone Target. My favourite is Redstone Socket.
Recipe ideas:
Mesh block + Redstone block
Would look like a redstone block inside a mesh, to indicate that it doesn't power adjacent blocks. This might look too much like it should still power though. This idea would be better for a vanilla-like redstone block variant that doesn't strongly power adjacent blocks.
Redstone dust surrounded by cobblestone, maybe with an iron ingot or 3 on the bottom
Would look like the cobblestoney texture of dispensers, pistons, furnaces and spike traps, with 4 slots/sockets near the bottom. These could be dark red when unpowered and glow red when powered. I like this idea best.
2 iron ingots and 2 redstone dust in a checkerboard pattern or redstone dust surrounded by iron ingots
Would look like a modified iron block with sockets like above. I don't like this idea as much as the cobblestone one, I think it's better to make this block cheap and crafted using cobble like the dispenser, pistons and spikes.
