Compaction and its pesky dialogue seems to be an evergreen issue in TB. But you can switch it off, no? I never see the dialogue with this setting:
Thanks for the response, @Betterbird ... I've updated my bug report to include that this setting is toggled off, and it's the lack of a way to permanently dismiss the dialogue to the negative that I am focusing on here.
I'm unsure why (or where in the code) having "ask me every time" is causing the popup even though compacting is disabled, but I've encountered this issue both via NixOS/Plasma and OSX, so it seems like this is unrelated to my choice of platform, although I don't have an easy way to reproduce this because it does not happen every time.
I do know it happens at least once a day, sometimes several times, and as I have more than one system this amounts to a multitude of interruptions, and having an option to say "never ask again, remember my answer" built into the GUI that is frustrating me would go a long way towards reducing said frustration.
When checking mail manually and at seemingly random times, a dialogue asking if I'd like to compress my message storage interrupts whatever I'm doing.
This dialogue needs a "no, and stop asking" option.
I have disabled compression in my settings, and I do not want the app constantly second-guessing that decision.
Betterbird should fix this because this is not good consent, and Thunderbird doesn't prioritize this sort of thing.
