Duplicate auto-generated Affiliation record

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Our organization is NOT managing donor/donation data

2. Virtually all Contacts are directly linked to Account/Org records
that are work-related, not donation-related. 

3. When a new Contact record is created AND linked to an work-related Org 
record via the Organization Name field, both a Contact related list item 
(normal) AND an Affiliation record are created on the Account/Org record 
page. The auto-generated Affiliation record is redundant. 

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

We understand the purpose of the Affiliation records and the intent that 
Contacts "should" be linked to individual "journal" account records for 
donations. Our organization wants to use the Organization Name field for 
that link. Therefore, we need to be able to turn the auto-create function 
off. The alternative is to link all Contacts with a Bucket Individual 
record, but this is not our preference. Is this likely that we will gain 
the ability to turn this function off or should we go ahead with a work-
around? 

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Affiliations: 1.5

This functionality was duplicated on a separate Salesforce system - same 
configuration, same Contact record linked to a work-related Org, same 
duplicate Affiliation record.
