Yes, this would be an excellent addition to the Relationships Object. It would
be nice to establish who is the father-daughter, wife-husband, Caregiver-Care
Receiver (as a few examples) between the two Contact records.

Love the idea. We have a client who needs this so we have started working on it
and grabbed the relationships app code as base (note: we found several
non-related files in the app that made it impossible to use as is).
We are doing a first iteration which is to introduce a new object (to keep
track of the relationship types and has a lookup to specify the reverse one),
modify the relationship object to have a lookup to the new object, and then
modify the existing trigger. Work in progress. We'll update here as we go.

I'd like to hear more about the unrelated files.I'd also like to see the custom
object strategy you are describing.

Just wondering where this is in the roadmap. This has popped up for a client,
and they would like the "father/daughter" etc.

Probably a bit lower on the map than some of the more pressing items
(improvements to rollups, smoothing out lead conversion, etc.) I'm definitely
aware of the issue, and we'll include it on the list of possible sprint goals
for this year's dev sprint.

We had Acutedge (Salesforce developer) create a trigger to do this for us. It
requires setting the reciprocal relationships (father-child, mentor-mentee) in
the trigger (so it's not easy to update), but it works really well. I could
ask Acutedge if it's ok to share the code with the Salesforce Foundation if
you're interested.

Thanks for the offer Nathan! We actually have some great code written at our
developer sprint at the end of April, just a question of getting it merged in
and cleaning up the interface a bit. Hopefully it will be coming soon.

Has the release of the new directional relationships feature been scheduled? My
client has a pressing need for it.

No, its not on the schedule yet, it will probably be until some point in the
fall before it can be completed.

Recurring donations package update will be completed shortly, then
relationships. A pressing HH patch pushed things back a bit.

I should add, the directional piece is pretty much code complete from the NYC
sprint in december just needs the rough edges smoothed.

It's been two more years... what's the status of this "code complete"
enhancement? :)

This repository is no longer in use. The feature was released about 14 months
ago.
