Accounts as household/organization #348

I have a general question, why is the NPSP structured that the account our used 
for organization and one 2 one or buckets why not just use it as household and 
org's and if every person will either be part of one or create his own.
In other words if i did create it like this in my org what issue might I get in 
to?

p.s. i believe Microsoft dynamics nonprofit template is built like this.

Flexibility, many organizations explicitly choose to use Households while 
others do not.  With this model, those organization have the ability to make 
that decision themselves.
