As requested at the AgML meering on 21/5/2024, here the result of a quick check of the github entry “crop_statistics_FEWSNET”. Sentences “Method and citation to be added” and “A formal citation for FEWS NET data will be provided in due course” to be updated. Please specify the source of the administrative layer (it seems similar to FAO Gaul2 but with important differences). Side note: Admin NE-A2-0109 looks bit strange, it is a perfect circle. Additional information on season name may be handy for the user. Possible seasons are: Main, Annual, Summer, Meher. Differences are not fully clear (e.g. between Main (there is no secondary) and Annual.

FEWS NET does not have a formal citation yet. A citation for our data paper will be added once we submit it in June 2024.
FEWS NET uses a variety of sources for administrative boundaries to best reflect agricultural statistics at the given time (see: https://fews.net/data/geographic-boundaries). It is possible to have slight differences with other sources. We’ve recognized those tiny circles but do not want to change them, as they may serve specific purposes.
I can double-check with the data maintainers. I believe the “Annual” season is reserved for when the country collectively reports multi-season records.

I will update our data card accordingly shortly. Hi @krsnapaudel, if possible, could you add a link to our data card in the draft so that people can use that citation once updated?

@gnodnooh: If you mean paper draft, we will reference all data cards in the Appendix of paper. Also in the README of GitHub repo.
