BiglyBT will not close BiglyBT Launcher on my new Windows 11 laptop #3230

When I close BiglyBT the file BiglyBT Launcher does not close - as seen in Win11 task manager.
I installed Java 8 after reading BiglyBT uses java for its interactions with system files, but still BiglyBT Launcher will not close.

When BiglyBT would close on my older computer, it would take a significantly longer process, while now it closes instantly.

Some other people have seen this behaviour, unfortunately there is no known solution, you need to kill the process via task manager. Note that not many people are affected by this so it doesn't appear to be a general Windows 11 issue.

I just bought this brand new HP Latitude 360 2 in 1 laptop with Win 11. So there will probably be more instances coming from other new computers soon. Thank you for an otherwise super program and all your work. Let me know if I can help you test future versions that may fix this annoying problem.

During previous BiglyBT closing, a little window would open tracking the program shutdown. I don't see that now, it appears to close instantly.

Do you have "Options->Interface->Display [Various]: Wait for BiglyBT to close tidily on exit/restart and display progress" enabled?

joliett commented 6 months ago

Yes OPTIONS is CONFIGURED CORRECTLY...but still the program closes instantly.

The problem with ignoring the failure to close properly problem, is that the BiglyBT log directory keeps growing. I had 60 files in there. I wish this closing error could be fixed. Regards, Joel

Perhaps you can grab some debug?

Close BiglyBT and kill the background process. Clear out the logs directory completely. Start BiglyBT. Exit BiglyBT to reproduce the problem. Follow the procedure here:

https://github.com/BiglySoftware/BiglyBT/wiki/Diagnostics#biglybt-hangs-or-is-slow-to-respondreact

Kill the background process. Zip up the entire logs directory. Rename the .zip file to something like "debuglogs" (some mailers don't like .zip files) Email the "debuglogs" file tome at paul@biglybt.com.

Thanks

I started to follow your directions. And then voila...BiglyBT started working perfectly. It closed perfectly....further investigation showed I WAS in fact using the X to close BiglyBT...which in my case was sending BiglyBT to the Taskbar and keeping it open. I know you warned me to use the File, Close action. So now everything is working properly! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! ♥️
